im planning on removing it without taking the dash out, so i will have to cut it out somehow

Yeah my bad I guess I read something wrong...

Cutting it isn't going to do much unless you get real ugly with it.. That unit has to come out from the inside of the car...the spot you see from under the hood is only a foot - foot and a half wide but the part that's in the car is about two - two and a half feet wide ad well as the blower and the cores are too deep to be able to make the turn so it can clear the wheel well or atleast it seemed that way to me.. Imho I think the pain you would go through just to get it out would out weigh the satisfaction of it being out.. Wasn't a big deal for me because everythings coming out anyways for undercoat, dye and paint..

You guys are talking two different things for the same area. ThreeHonks is talking about cutting out the AC part of the heater core and keeping the heater blower. the_merv on LS1Tech did that. The AC part is on the engine bay side of the box and the heater and blower are on the interior side behind the dash. If you take a dremel to the box and cut it in half to make the box flush with the firewall, you can get rid of the AC and then build a flat panel that covers the hole and allows your heater core and blower to continue to function - allowing you to keep windshield defrost and drastically clean up the engine bay without all the AC clutter.

I agree with never getting rid of the defrost, even for a drag car its not worth it to me.

I just really want to clean up my engine by, so something like what the_merv did would be great for me. I want to make sure im not going to hit anything once I start cutting

Agreed - but then again I have been going back and forth with the whole deleting creature comforts thing. It's one thing to have a 10 second car that's all stripped... but a 10 second car that still has AC, heat, radio, power steering... now that's just cool.

True. but getting rid of that box is bascially the last thing I need to do to my engine bay. everything is already either gone or hidden

exactly my thoughts. Ive been thinking about this for 3 months now and i still cant make up my mind.

Do I want a prettier engine bay and 40 less pounds?

true but my car is heavy. Weighed 37xx with me in and a 1/4 tank of gas. and that was before I gained 30 pounds

Big difference between a "hacked up" car and deleting the a/c and all of its componets. I did some deletions and I wouldnt call my engine bay "hacked up"

Haha we won't go into how much my car will weigh with me in it. But yeah - if I take the plunge and get rid of AC it's for the aesthetics more than the performance. But, after this year's Woodward Dream Cruise I don't think I could ever get rid of AC in my car with how hot it was.

your enigne bay still looks gret with everything in it. its organized and not cluttered or anything. I never use a/c so just dumped it... along with the ABS

I just got rid of that entire assembly because I don't want to deal with it under there or wiring it up... I bought a FAST XFI and will be wiring the engine my self along with everything else in the car.. I'm also planning on mounting the XFI unit as well as my fuel pump controler under the dash where the heater/ac stuff was..and I'm planning on picking up a data logger as well which will be mounted in the same location... So the best option for me was to dump all that crap
