Wasn't me - it was the parts guy. I called him over the phone and asked what the LS7 lifters go for. He said 130 and I said "Great, that's the set right?" and he hesitated and was like "No, that's per lifter." I laughed and hung up.- Brian Meissen

please do not base your cam choice off of the sound, they all sound wayyyy better than stock. The real bread and butter is how well they work with your entire combo.Doing less with more

Your combo is the conbination of heads, valvetrain, bolt-ons, intake, gears, converter (if auto), tire size, wieght ect. All I am saying is that if your going to stick with a stock LS1 intake for a long time then don't pick a cam that wants to shift at 7K or upgrade the intake and have the steep gearing for it as well. I understand its easy to say you like the sound of a cam and want it, but you have to consider how its going to work with the other parts on the car. The cam is the brain of the motor and if you want to build a car that works well and runs to its full potential you have to cater to its needs for a successful build. I have yet to hear an aftermarket cam in an LS1 that didn't sound wicked when running right, it'll sound good no matter what.Doing less with more

berger truck was just here dropping off my parts
Yea for cam I am looking for a great performer that is streetable and not radical that works with an ls6 intake and stock 98 heads. Of course any cam is going to sound good over stock, some sound better than others though too.

Jeff you trying to say the cam I suggested isnt good? You rode in the goat you can tell him what you thought of it.Originally posted by DETROITMUSCLE View Postplease do not base your cam choice off of the sound, they all sound wayyyy better than stock. That cam is designed to work well with stock to stock ported heads.

That is not what I am trying to say, the el torro cam was a great performer is Steve's car no doubt. I'm just saying don't pick it because of the sound like some ignorant ricer. That said a cam such as that one would perform excellent in a bolt-on car.Originally posted by c0ncEpT View PostJeff you trying to say the cam I suggested isnt good? That cam was specifically ground to work well with stock heads and lightly ported stock casting heads. Now if your looking for a cam to go well with your aftermarket casting heads that cam might not be for you.
You should choose a cam based on what heads you have. A lot of people think it goes the other way around and they are very wrong.Last edited by c0ncEpT; December 14th, 2009, 01:03 PM.

are the stock injectors pretty well maxed out on these engines with the stock cam? I would be looking at injectors as well I assume with a cam correct?------------------------------------------

No not really. 95% of cam only applications are fine with stock injectors. Plus 98's have the larger 28# injectors.Originally posted by 97rs4life View Postare the stock injectors pretty well maxed out on these engines with the stock cam?
