  • It's the original L-82, and was rebuild 20 years ago, but has not been started since. Dave K. has it now for inspection. We are installing new valve springs, and roller tip rockers. It was balanced and blue printed by Golden Racing Engines here in GR. It's had some mild head work, port matching and the like. A new Comp Cams 268H mild cam and an Edelbrock Performer intake, also port matched. It should make somewhere in theneighborhood of 245-350HP, and be very streetable.

Of course, if James comes up with an LS7, the old engine would be for sale. LOL

    • Ahh Very cool, well I hope it is ok, that is a long time to set. I have a friend's dad that rebuilt a motor 15 years ago and never used it, trying to sell it, and while it does turn, I can't imagine it's much good without it being gone through.

If James finds a spare LS7 I'll gladly take it and sell mine too, lol.

Do you guys have exhaust lined up yet for it?

Not yet. In fact we were just talking about that yesterday.

Yeah, something I'm researching for mine too, got a couple systems in mind but not sold on anything yet. How tame are you guys wanting it to sound?

          Comment

          • I sealed the engine up real good when it was rebuilt. Dave said there was no rust inside, so hopefully everything will be ok. We chenged the valve spring because some had been compressed for 20 years, while others were not. There is a small problem with one exhaust valve that won't seal. Dave is investigating that now. Otherwise everything was oiled liberally prior to sealing it up.

I have a set of ceramic coated headers already, and we're still debating exactly which way we're going with the exhaust system. The car is going to be low to the ground, so I would rather stay away from the usual Turbo mufflers under the floor routine. We'll install an X pipe somewhere, too. I'm looking for something that has a nice sound, but is not too loud.

            • The guys over at Nastyz29.com seem to like the Pypes systems on their 2nd Gens. But I suspect we'll have to fab something up, since nobody makes an off the shelf system for a 2nd Gen with a 6-speed trans.

              • Glad to hear it looks good, wasn't doubting, that's just a long time. Definetely a good idea to change the springs.

Sounds like what I'm looking for, wife already told me if I expect to take her and my daughter it better not be too loud, lol. I'm thinking something nice and tame, then a set of dumps for when I'm in it, lol.

Have you guys looked into Pypes exhaust at all?

                • I've looked at their website (http://pypesexhaust.com/) and read about them on Nastyz28.com. But that's about it. Looks like pretty nice stuff. Everyone says installation is easy since the quality of the bends and locations is perfect.

yeah, that's how I found them to, on Nasty. Right now I'm leaning towards them but we'll see, not buying anything right now so. Alright, just curious, looks like it's going well, I'm going to have to come see it one of these days.

                    • Once we get the sand blasting finished and get the underside painted, the Project should start moving along nicely again. The car is extremely soild with no rust under the car at all. There were some very minor rust spots on the body, but Berger fixed those.

It's going to be a nice car when it's finished.

                      • Well, a major milestone was reached today for Project DZ74. Ray came over and spent several hours sand blasting and finished up the job. Everything is blasted and primed. Tomorrow James and I will clean up the garage, blow the sand out of all the nooks and crannies of the car, and get things ready for Justin to paint this weekend!
