Meissen's LT1 Rebuild Thread

No plans as of yet. It's in the machine shop and that's about it. They are going to have to bore the cylinder walls out because of two deep scratches and they're doing a 10/10 to the crank. Just waiting for a final estimate on how long it'll take and how much $$$ so I can start saving up... In my estimation, it will take me about 2-3 months to save up how much they estimated it will cost.

Meissen it all seems to me that there was an issue before you started on it. What did you use to hone the cylinders? The right method is to use a ball hone with a drill to put cross hatches.. I donno what 3 prong thing from Murrays you used...

Well, my dad and I cleaned the heads out yesterday with mineral spirits. Got all the metal flakes out of it and then "washed" the springs and such out with oil. Should be all set for whenever the motor comes home. I also painted the calipers again and my dad worked on a little something special...

Sounds like its coming along, what kind of project is your dad working on? You cant tease us like that!

I've used the 3 prong thing many times and never EVER had a problem and the same motor has been running 3 years now and great i might add.

Yeah, unfortunately since we didn't check the bearings we can't know for sure. At this point we're just assuming we screwed it up.

Man that sucks sorry to hear that, But i know how you feel, I'm just now getting my motor buttoned up, if you remember i had a new motor built 2 winters ago.
