  • [Project] Update on my engine

Well as some of you know, I had my 3.8 v6 engine built up by a place in TX. When I installed it and took it to get dynotuned the bottom end started to let loose 15 minutes into it. Ended up ripping the engine out once more and took it to a local shop here. Heard back today on what happened to my bottom end.

Two of the rods were not honed out when they were reconditioned. This caused the tolerances to be too tight. Also the oil pan was hitting the oil pickup. The crank is not trashed, but has been turned once and would need to be turned again. Instead I have a stock crank sitting on the shelf that I am using because I don't want to weaken the crank anymore. Cam is fine and pistons are fine, one had a cosmetic scuff on it, but nothing harmful. Bearings need to be replaced.

So hopefully this engine will finally run properly again and I can come chase you v8 guys around, ha.

Oh and I also got my MT ET street radials in the other day and mounted them to some salad shooters. Should help me cut some nice 60' times

That sucks, good thing you shut it down before too much damage was done. The shop in Texas doing anything about it?

I'd want them to pay for it as well.

            Thanks for the update though.

yea abbott refunded me for the issues. Just wish I didn't have to do it twice, but oh well. Hopefully it will be good to go here soon.

I am surprised the engine turned over with those tight clearances on the rods.

Did you get any sort of power numbers, or was it just break-in, then broken, lol.

What time frame are you looking at for having it on the dyno again?

bottom end was going right away, the best run was 205hp when it was pig rich and no timing. Then numbers kept going down as the bottom end was going more and more even thought the tune was getting better.

I figure I should be around 270rwhp as a guess NA. With the bottle, over 400hp easy as I have two stages of nitrous. Would like to see 470 on the bottle with both 100 shot stages. The engine was built with internals made for 200+ shot...

Timeframe, just need to get the engine completed at the shop then I will get it and put it in some weekend. Sometime this spring yet before the M&G of course
