well you would need to know your combustion chamber volume, volume of cylinder at top dead center, and swept volume but basically:

    clearance volume +swept volume/clearance volume = cr

so basically if you know what your entire clearance volume is than subtract .006*pi* radius of the circle^2= That will give you the approximate volume decrease in the clearance volume. Then use the above formula to get your approximate compression ratio. OH and all units must be inches.

The only thing to watch out for is your valve to piston clearance, make sure that your intake valves have enough clearance to the pistons.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've never gone that route and thus far all of the bolts are pretty straight forward. Meaning, bolt wise, everything has a place...and makes sense. On the other hand, wires and hoses...I have to try to keep track of those. There's crap coming from everywhere and going everywhere and coming back again and leaving to go who know where...humph. I'll be lucky to keep those straight. When it comes to that stuff, HOPEFULLY, there's nothing better than flash photography!!!!!!

I wouldn't worry about wires too much. On LT1's atleast, every wire matches up to another one, pretty much impossible to hook them up wrong

All righty then...a bit of a snag (and somewhat expected). I'm going to have to remove the headers from the car... Not an easy task by no means, but...necessary.

We had visitors on and off throughout the day yesterday, so I didn't get very far.

          Here's a shot from yesterday:

Oh yeah, I never thought that I would be the proud owner of one of these. Now I am. Very simplistic, yet VERY necessary...

Back? What back? (Actually, 800mg of ibuprofen has become my best friend!)

Here's something that ticks me off. When they built these vehicles they didn't take into consideration that someday someone might want to or have to remove the heads. These are bolted to the back of the DS head.

Plum Nuts had to ask about the back. Well now; thanks Larry. Since last Friday the back took a major dive. No progress until Wednesday. It's as if I ripped something internally on the right side. Tried the IcyHot Patches; useless for my scenario. Yesterday somewhat better. Today better yet.

Went for the 'easy' work and yesterday I finished porting the OEM throttle body. I'd show the b4 and after but my video card took a dive on my computer; using my wifes computer right now. Once I get mine back on line, I'll run several pics. (BTW...BFG video cards have a 'lifetime' warranty. Woot!)

                      Two after pics.

OK, went out a bought a cheezy video card while I'm waiting for my replacement. Galaxy 8400 GS...$38 and a $5 rebate at MicroCenter. No gaming with this one...there'll be a mushroom cloud if I do...

Anyway...here's before and after on the OEM throttle body.

Oh yeah, the butterfly was done with emery cloth and a Scotch Brite wheel mounted on a bench grinder. Thinned it out and applied a radius on the bottom backside and top front-side.

Here's where I'm at. Ordered a double roller and ported oil pump today. I didn't care for the slop in the chain. Additionally, if necessary, I'll have the ability to degree the cam.

Oh yeah, I decided on the 228/232 .588"/.574" 112LSA cam. It has good mid range power without having to spin 7000+ rpm to achieve it. I won't have that until later in the week.
