Meissen's LT1 Build-up Thread

Got a spring compressor from Murrays to loan and I also bought what I thought I needed for the valve stem seals since I was there -- I'm confused though why I've seen all this stuff about o-ring seals and it looks like I really need the umbrella seals?

I can't figure out where the O-ring seals even come into play..

Ordered the correct kind through Murrays today and took the o-rings back. Should be getting it by Tuesday or sooner.

Got all the roller rockers, studs, springs, etc off of one of the heads. Got a good battle wound from it too when I was trying to break one of the studs loose and slammed my knuckle against the edge of the head. Felt it hit bone and it bled like a freak. Found some liquid skin to plug it up but it's still oozing out from the liquid skin been like an hour now

Anyway, once I get the new seals I'll take some pics as I do the install.

Yeah it is - It's been awhile now and it's still oozing out of the liquid bandaid when I put any pressure on my hand or grip something. It's not a lot by any means, but it's just kinda funny. It's my first blood from the LT1 I think.

Geez, where to leave off!

Well the engine has sat idle for quite awhile since I've been having to collect parts here and there.

I used part of the gift card from Angie's parents to get some valve stem seals from Murrays so I have those finally.

I still need to make up my mind 100% on whether or not I'm doing the port and polish. If I do the port and polish, I'm that much further away from getting this back together. If I DON'T do the port and polish then I can start assembling some of the parts right now.

Which then leads to the next part that I need - need gaskets! A guy on craigslist keeps listing a FelPro master engine gasket kit for LT1s. I'm really tempted to get that since it'd be everything I need and then some extras that I don't "just in case."

My dad also wants to measure the bearings on the bottom end to see if we need to get new bearings.

I also want to get a bunch of stuff from POR-15's website to paint my undercarraige and my engine bay (top coat the engine bay in red, though, of course).

Then I have a LOT of work to do in the engine bay to clean it up and make it as empty as possible. Really want a clean look when it's finished.

What timing chain is that? I got the Cloyles set with the sprokets and everything and there is very little slack.

I went with the Comp Cams high-energy timing chain I heard anything more than stock replacement is overkill for under 450rwhp but I went with the Comp Cams chain just to continue with the rest of their parts.

LT1 spec for slack in the chain is 1/2 inch either way so 1 inch total, its alot of slack but even a brand new set has that much.
