We're not trying to tell you what to do Brian we're just saying that it should be something that you research and heavily consider.

No disagreements there - I'm able to admit when I'm wrong and don't know what I'm doing.

Which would be about 99% of the time with this LT1 swap.

          • Do the rod bolts weigh any more or less than stock? Wouldn't this throw off balance?

                • Reminds me of the fun with the pushrods. I was getting stressed out because I went ahead about bought the stock length hardened pushrods from Comp Cams and a few people were telling me I needed to measure pushrod length. Then I read on CamaroZ28 (Joel's pushrod help thread, actually) and saw that one of the guys on there was swearing up and down that the stock pushrod length would be perfectly suitable for almost every h/c swap.

                    • sorry to be so late on this one.

Kyle is right about the rod bolts. It is a "fix" to some degree, however the fact that we only have 2-bolt mains makes conditions worse. A 4-bolt main car with ARP bolts I wouldnt hesitate at all to take to 7K. **** the opti, i havent had any issues yet

Im taking my stock bottom end to 6k right now, im probably going to set my rev limiter at 6400 and take it damn close to that.

                          • Meh, for $60 as long as I don't have to rebalance the crank or do more stuff to it I'll just do it. Worst part is that this - even though it's only $60 - is going to delay the build even more.

                            • I know my motor isn't stock but I run mine to 6400 with no issues and its' has been that way for 6 yrs.
But I also have a 4 bolt main (factory)
And with the cam I have I was still making pwr when she hit the 6200 so I'm going to go to 7000 and see what she will do
