I would leave the heads on unless youre gonna do some refreshing personally. (my intake valve guides were worn at 90k). but if you took them off you could do impala gaskets to add a couple tenths of compression, among other things.

We'll see what goes on. It all depends on finances. I'm going to take my time with this -- as much as I understand we can get it all done in 1 day v6 to v8, I'd like to take my time and do it right.

yeah no doubt. I have a lot of things I'd like to do -- time and money are the only things that will determine what happens.

On a progress note, my dad got the engine hoist assembled today so when I get home from class ... at 10pm I'll get to remove the engine from the car, put it down in the garage ... and then log in to work

Highly recommend it out the bottom. I've done it both ways.. an Lt1 out the top is a total PITA. I would bet the V6 wouldn't be too bad coming out the top.. got a little more space

Dropping what out the bottom? The v6 and putting the v8 into the car through the bottom? Yessir. And what about a k-member? Were you drunk when you posted?

Edit: OK i re-read what I typed and now I see the confusion. I was taking the LT1 out of the bed of the DAKOTA, not the v6 out of the Camaro. No way in hell would I be able to do that so quickly! Still not sure what you're talking about for the k-member.

And here's the pics of today's progress -- just getting it out of the Dakota. My dad built the hoist today. The engine was too far into the bed of the truck for the hoist's chain to reach, so my dad took a 2x4 beam and then wrapped a chain around the beam and hoist so he could reach the engine and try and move it from the bed of the truck. He said he started cranking the hoist up and the 2x4 beam snapped in half!!!! He had it on end so it cracked vertically through 4 inches of wood Anyway, I got home and helped him get it closer to the hoist and then we got it off. Here's some better pics of it now that it's in the garage.
