  • programmer or racing chip?

Wondering if anyone knows about ls1's, here's the thing. Whats different between programmers and racing chip's?and can u have both and have no problems?

Our new cars dont have the removable "chips" as cars did back in the 80's
Jet performance has a progamer, plug it in and download there program, change shift points, etc.
They also have a module. here is a lnk for that item

Do they work? thats up for debate. I have the hypertech programmer on my SS.

If you have a ls1 you need a programmer or a tuner if you have the older 3rd gen then you need a eprom chip. If you have a choice between a programmer and a tuner I'd opt for the tuner because you can fine tune all the settings for your engine on your laptop then just download the information to the pcm.

programmers and chips are a HUGE waste of money. For example the hypertech, doesnt do anything unless you need to reprogram speedo for smaller/larger tires. Save your money

Yep, I have a HPP3 for mine, when I bought it I had no idea there were other options out there. As I found out when I got online and searching the forums, yeah, it's a waist, sort of. I do think if you don't have the money for HPtuners or a dyno tune that you can get a HPP3 cheap on ebay or one of the forums and if you get it for under $100 it is worth if from the standpoint that you can at least change shift points, shift firmness, adjust for wheel/tire size changes, gear ratio changes, thermostat change and I think that's about it. The tune is basically worthless. But the other stuff works well.

So, from somebody who has one, I'd say its a cheap alternative to a good tuning program from the standpoint that you can make all those adjustments. However don't pay over $100 for a Hpp3 (Hypertech) and I do hear the predator tuner is a little better. So it really depends on what you want to spend and what you want to do. Ultimately, if you have the $$, get HPtuners.

^^^ ill agree with that. The hand helds are more for shift points, gear swaps, and aftermarket tire sizes so your speedo is correct. And for some cars to rid that pesky governor like on my s10 it was at 98mph. When it easily did 140 after removing gov.

I'll agree with that also. It all depends on what you will be doing to your car.

id say tuner, i need on for gov. as well, id like to adjust my shift points, lower the temp the cooling fan kicks on and will very soon need to adjust for tire size change. so go tuner, brand is based on personal preference.
