  • Thoughts on this turbo exhaust setup

I was searching one eBay to see what my options were for exhaust that was in my price range. I saw a listing for turbo exhaust, and for and I clicked on it. Always wanted to do a mild turbo 5.3L setup and this one seems to keep a/c and power steering. $500. I'd be willing to up my budget a bit for some boost and a better transmission.

    Thoughts?

Search ls1tech for ebay turbo kit and you will see that this kit has some fitment and quality issues. IIRC people had to make there own downpipe, buy quality v-bands, and there were some cracking issues. Some people were happy with the kit after all that...

I still prefer the truck manifold route. More compact, easier to build if you can weld. Who needs AC if you have a turbo? Not me.
When in doubt, Whip it out !

I tried finding some threads, read a bunch, and still didn't get a good feel on the kits.

I'm only partially considering a turbo setup but now is the time to do it!

plain an simple, if you are going to do a turbo setup and do it RIGHT you will not be within your budget just get it running as is and save up for that project down the road.

You would have to spend at least 2K on random shit even if you were planning to keep it on low boost. Ask me how I know

Yup, no "cheap" way to do a turbo build. 8-10 psi is where I'd want to be. I priced out transmission parts at a little over $1000 just to keep it alive.

I was more or less wondering how that kit fit, how the welds were, what were the downfalls, etc. Looks like it would need about 3 miles of heat wrap

add up everything you "think" you will spend on a turbo kit, add $5k and double it!

They don't say "Nitrous is for poor people" for nothing

Why does everyone think because I saw a $500 hot side assume I think that it will cost less than $1500 to put together? I know cost will be up there

I have a 900 dollar shopping list just for transmission internals Nitrous doesn't do anything for me

8-10 psi is a good start, but I think most guys think that way. I know I did and now I'm 10k into my turbo build. (the whole car that is) But, I could have put my car together a lot cheaper than what I am, but I know what I want. 8-10 was my goal but now I am thinking more along the lines of 10-15 psi more in the goal I am looking for. But who can tell? I would like to see 600 at the wheels.

Look at all the joints in that kit - everyone of them is a potential for a leak. F-that.

Keep it simple. Build the trans, get the fuel system in line and wait for the Huron speed A/C kit if you want A/C - or fab your own kit.

You seem handy - just need some time, a welder and some bends.

Because you listed a budget of 3200 for the entire car in your other thread.

I spent about $3200 just on aluminum and stainless bends and straits... hell, a single stainless 4" V-band with flanges is about $100 a piece!
