I guess I did word it that way LOL! I guess what I meant is that with the Twin Setup I would have a 305 that would beat up most cars. I figure if I have the car apart and am doing 1 Turbo what the hell lets do 2 while we're at it. Because I just know as soon as I get 1 installed I am going to want more power in a week LOL!! The car is already coming apart and getting new floor pans, sub frame connectors and new exhaust so why not go all the way from the get go. If for some reason the motor decides to fall apart then its time to go More Cubes with the Twin Turbo's i.e More Power

I was wondering about Lag? I have heard that to eliminate most lag is to go with the Twin setup or is this just rumor? I understand I am going to have some lag but I don't want anything that is going to hurt me outta the hole. F/I is all new to me I understand NOS. Jeff - How much power do you want to make??
For reference - I have one turbo on a STOCK AC Delco reman longblock...no lag what so ever. Two weeks ago I trapped 121mph at Lapeer. I will say that there is a lot to learn when it comes to picking/sizing turbos properly. Too small will limit total power, too big will have a lag issue and possibly a loss of potential power also. For a street car, one turbo can get the job done with little trouble. Sure you can make more power with two, but there is also more fabrication required.
Also FWIW - a good friend of mine has a full STS kit on his 96 Z28. He has the same size turbo as mine, but for some reason has an annoying lag issue. Our last possible deduction is the heat loss through the exhaust since the turbo is so far away from the engine. It still makes good power, it just takes time to spool. He usually gets beat on the street by bolt-on fox body stangs (yuk). But on the highway lookout!!

Yeah twins would allow smaller turbo's that woudl spool faster. Turbo sizing is the most important part of any set-up. You need to pick your power goals and then reference engine size and airflow to properly choose a turbo (or turbo's).
I recommend reading Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. It gives a good basic overview of turbo's, how they work, and how to size them if you are piecing together your own kit.
Now the rear mount turbo's have come with their own set of issues. As stated they sometimes experience lag. I highly suggest you read up on this in the forced induction forum over on LS1tech. Tons of info there and lots of solutions. One being to wrap the exhaust to keep the heat in as the heat is a main part of the energy that spools the turbo's. Another is the scavenge pump for oil.
Yes what you want is definitely doable. But how you accomplish it will all depend on your goals and budget.
All that being said, I love the turbo's. My car drives normal around town. And if I decide to play just mash the pedal and pulls like a freight train! I still get 17/24 mpg and have DD'd it all summer. I put over 14k miles on it since my turbo's went on last Fall.
One thing to consider is the APS kit might be made to fit on a 3rd gen. The sheet metal under the cars was pretty much unchanged 3rd gen to 4th gen. I have been pondering this with a friend of mine that has a 3rd gen...... But can't say for sure yet. That would allow you to keep the turbo's closer to the engine and comes with an intercooler.Last edited by Hugger Z; October 22nd, 2008, 07:59 AM.My Toys: Hugger Orange 1999 Z28 6-Spd Twin Turbo
