  • This may have been asked already, but how much did it cost to build the supercharger set-up? I really want to go forced induction, but the cost and complexity of a turbo is keeping me away. Do you have drawings and/or CAD data for the mounting brackets?

    • Tim, from personal experience.... if you are thinking about FI at all, dont considering a pieced together kit or self owned, just trying to save you a lot of headaches, time, and money, get an already manufactured kit that you can bolt on. A supercharger install will also be about 5x easier than a turbo install FWIW!

      • That's why I was thinking supercharging instead. No hotside/coldside fabrication. Sadly no one makes a real "kit" to go FI on V6s, so it's going to be a custom job either way. I'm not afraid of a little tinkering and fabrication.

        • Ah, well custom making your own turbo turbo set-up will be far more complex than one thinks, just trying to save you some time and headaches. Procharger doesnt make a V6 kit with a P1 or something? Weird

          • Nope, there were a bunch of kits around, but everyone stopped production, so now it's all used kits and home builts. A bunch of people have used the Procharger D1SC with good results. I'm just wondering what kind of power threshold I'd be looking at with a blower rather than a turbo. I'd like to get around 400 HP out of it.

            • i have no idea what the V6s can handle but with boost just crank it up. A D1SC will surely make more than enough power for your V6 to handle if you want.... Hell, they can make more than LS1's can handle and have powered them well into the 9's! Plus they sound great. They are pricey, sure, but i think a D1sc would be a sick set-up for you Tim. Then if you ever plan to go to a V8, you will already have the head-unit and can get the rest of the kit for the V8 motor to complete it! I know of a shop that would have no problem at all setting this up for you. Let me know if you want more info.

                  • Tim, Mach performance here in MI make a 3.8l Procharger kit for our cars. Expensive but great power from the kits.

Check around boards and ebay and powerdyne kits pop up as well for around $2k

400 rwhp? No offence, but I didn't even make 400 hp on my 8psi, cammed, .30 over, etc, etc set up.

                      • how the heck are you not making 400 hp out of a supercharged Lt1

                        • I figure with heads, ported intakes, cam, and longtubes I can get up to 240-250 whp (Abbott got 270+ out of an NA 3800), add 10psi (10+14.7/14.7=1.68) 240x1.68=403. THEORETICALLY that would put me up to around 400 whp. Need more horsepower? Add more boost, the motors can handle it.
