Yep, same here and all by itself. It still feels like it has wax in it.

Agree with his agreement. Love mine, and yeah, does leave wax at first.

I'll have to wash mine, didn't realize it could be washed. Whenever I wash any of my microfiber towels, I put in the washing machine without any soap in there. They come clean, and I know I don't have anything on them.

FWIW, they do have a special soap you can get for washing your detailing microfibers that help break down any wax or residues that might be on the microfibers. I wouldn't recommend using it to wash the duster, though.

I'm really surprised you guys are having such good luck with the dusters. My dad used to have a 29 Ford show car and he loved to use the duster. I don't know if it was how he was using it or what, but every time he used that damn thing he'd undo the polish job we just did on the car. It was a Ford Motorsports branded duster though, no idea if that makes a difference.

If it was just a relabelled California Duster, he had to of been applying some force to take the polish off? It should just glide over the surface and remove the dust. I used it before I went to the Rodgers show on Saturday, but then again I dont think I have any wax or polish on my car

What I meant was we'd polish it, thing would pretty damn good for a hand polish (not just a wax), and as soon as he returned from a car show the thing would have a ton of swirls on it again. The few times I've watched him do it it didn't look like he was applying much if any pressure. The worst was from Autorama with all that concrete dust from the people mover.

We had a pretty elaborate detail job done on it at one point to correct all that and it looked like a million bucks. He used that duster on it once when we weren't looking and hello swirls.

edit: I guess I shouldn't say swirls. Fine scratches. They looked very much like they were caused from the duster.

Bingo. I wish I could buy all the California Dusters in the world and burn them.

I don't trust them. By design, they are supposed to pick up dust with the waxy coating on the fibers. This may work OK for a while, but its risky. I've been able to use one without issue, but the difference between proper use and swirl city is extremely narrow. Also, anything that's supposed to work better "the dirtier it gets" is an instant red flag in my world.

It's my opinion that you would be far better served using a waterless wash and quality microfiber to remove light dust. Waterless washes these days are incredible, and actually will encapsulate dirt to safely remove it with a gentle wipe of a clean microfiber.

Of course, the potential to scratch is still there anytime you touch your paint, period. I just believe it's less likely than with a Cal Duster.

No disrespect is intended to anybody that uses a duster and loves it. I have no doubt it can be used to great effect in the right hands. Just trying to provide another, more modern option.

I also think it has a lot to do with the color as far as what you see when you use it, my 65 bonneville is a teal color and it looks great when done. I still havent used it on my black SS and I doubt I ever will. It now lives in the bonnevilles trunk

My buddy used it on his black Mustang all the time to.

I think peoples problems come from putting pressure. You don't press when using it.
