Detailing is about being thorough... I only use dawn to strip all wax and tar off the paint. Otherwise I agree with you, hence what i have said about it before in this thread. A claybar is gonna be more effective on a car without wax. Obviously youd still be able to get the job done without it, but youll probably have to rub on it more to get the spots off.

Its been raining here in GR for 3 days almost non stop.
I got rid of my Grand Prix, so the T/A is going to need some detailing after its over. I may be eating my words on putting my shine against a Zaino shine. I was just on the website and saw the testimonials. I couldn't believe how great some of those cars looked. Also, why do they tell you to use a BIG terry cloth towel? Wouldn't micorfiber towels be better, or just as good? Its about all I have in the cabinet....

Im really giving Zaino the test by this damn week long rain. I need to keep insurance on my beater during the summer but that would mean less mods for the camaro..

I wasn't impressed by Zaino at all. It's like any other wax. There's a cult like following, which is kinda funny, especially on some of the larger sites. One guy on LS1tech tried to say that Zaino repells dust and pollen off car's paint, I was like "O RLY? Let me go take a picture of my dust covered car after I zainoed it..."

This is my 2 cents on Zaino:

First, disclaimer, if you like Zaino (Joel, Rob, Jonny) that's cool and don't take it as a personal attack or anything against y'all when I talk about Zaino or such. Definitely not trying to say y'all shouldn't use what works good on your cars or what you like.

When it comes to Zaino, you're buying an average paint protection system. They claim all these layers make it durable, but from what I see they're trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes. Supposedly the layers last for like 6 months, but yet everyone's always putting layer upon layer upon layer upon layer on, seemingly once a week or every other week. When ever they drive somewhere to a show, they then have to spray the entire car down with quick detail spray or ... what was it Jonny that you used the other day? You mentioned it when we were talkin in IM's... Z18? The grand finale spray. Anyway, so here's the (rough, not detailed comparison, if I skip a step just brush it off because I'm being generalized here)

                            Zaino:
                            1. Claybar
                            2. Apply one of the two polishes
                            3. Spray with quick detail
                            4. Apply one of the two polishes
                            5. Spray with quick detail
                            6. Once a week, apply one of the two polishes
                            7. Follow by detail spray
                            8. Repeat step 6 & 7 once a week, maybe every other week, maybe once a month depending on weather and how much you drive it
                            9. Spray car down with detail spray every time you go to a car show so it looks nice and clean

Every other wax. For my purposes, we'll say Meguiar's 3 step system:
                            1. Claybar
                            2. Polish
                            3. Wax
                            4. Wax every week, every other week, or every month depending on weather and how much you drive it. Since "Meguiar's isn't durable" you "have to wax all the time" hmm... #4 looks familiar to step 6 and 8 for Zaino...
                            5. Spray with quick detail spray every time you go to a car show so it keeps that "fresh waxed" look, -OR- if you really want to go above and beyond, quick wax at the car show. ...hmm, this looks like #8 for Zaino too, and I'm sure people would do Zaino's polishes at the show if it weren't for how much longer it takes to do.

When you look at the two waxes side by side, there's not much of a difference in my eyes, except that Zaino can only be purchased online, and it's more expensive. Shine is all determined by how clean the paint is, although sometimes a wax can help with the "optical clarity" of the paint, all that's saying is that there's no dead, oxidized paint on top of the car.

That said, I removed my Zaino decal from the back of my car.

yea i agree with you on some of those points.... zaino DOES NOT repel dust or pollen, once you polish, the car gets covered in dust and stuff from the towl you took it off with. The detail spray is pretty repelent, after you detial spray it with z6 or z18, the car doesnt get as dusty and if so, brushes off very easily. Personally, ive used the NXT wax and the shine couldnt compare with the zaino. Personally i also like the ease of applying the zaino, just coat it on rather and rub in and rub out. Zaino is a pain to order and very expensive, agree there. Ive detailed a lot of my dad's cars (used car dealer) and he just tells me to wash and use the NXT and i've never got anything close to the shine i get with the zaino or the texture. However im sure there are better wax's out there, i jsut havent tried them. However, i jsut love the texture the zaino gives, just like ice if you rub your hand across it. I also agree with you on durability how anything applied once a week will last since you keep applying it, real good point. I love the shine, texture, and ease of applying of my zaino so i'm goin to stick with it. They also have the ZPC POLISH which i used at the start of the summer, the z2-pro and z5 are really just sealants like a wax so to speak, the ZPC is a polish thats sealed in my the z2-pro and z5.

PS, try there tire shine, this stuff IS durable, Armor all wares off in a few days, i applied the zaino on my dad's truck and it was still shiny a week and a half later! Cant beat the smell of the zaino either, haha. Wax's are jsut a personal choice, some have different properties than others but overall, its preference
