go with the fast toys ram air kit, whisper lid, carsound cat, 2.5" magnaflow exhaust. Headers if you have the funds. You can also shave the stock air lid if you want to save money instead of buying a whisper lid, results won't be as good, but better than stock
3" is to much for a v6 unless you are going FI.------------------------------------------

I want to get a supercharger eventually. I was thinkin turbo, but I dont like how they sound due to the removal of the mufflers. How well with a supercharger work with 2.5" exhaust?
what is the difference between the fast toys cai and slp cai?Last edited by Shah; March 12th, 2007, 10:54 PM.

supercharger will work good yet with the 2.5" turbos if you go above 10psi will want the 3" exhaust. So depends on your ultimate goals. Also with a turbo you don't remove the muffler, it still stays there and you attach the exhaust to the downpipe------------------------------------------

Looks like travis has ya covered, and you should believe what hes tellin you, cause he did the same tihng for me when i was first modding my car. Thats prolly why we both have the same exhaust (pacesetters, carsound, 2.5 magnaflow) and intakes are close (i have SLP)....and OUR cars sound really nice for a V6!!!!

If it isn't broke don't fix it.
you might gain 1/2 second in the quarter mile but it is worth it to spend over $1,000 (easy) to go from a 16 to a 15.5. I understand you have visions of a supercharger and other mods.... But I would consider saving your money and just buying a LS1. Installing a supercharger you will be re-engineering all kinds of stuff(can't run much boost of a stock motor) and if you had a LS1 you have a factory approved/designed car to handle the power with easy of troubleshooting/maintance.
I have a carsound high flow cat and it made a difference but my stock cat failed at 80,200 miles. So a new one would make a huge difference anyway.

please don't give false info like that. It would be appreciated.Originally posted by bri2203If it isn't broke don't fix it.

Installing a supercharger is a simple bolt on kit for the 3.8 car. I actually just sold one so yes I know what the kit has. I am also going to be putting another supercharger kit on my brother's 3.8 firebird in about 2-3 weeks once we get his car out, supercharger is laying in the bedroom of his. The powerdyne kit can run just fine 9-10psi on the stock engine
There have been turbo guys that have done 15+ lbs of boost on the stock 3.8 and had no troubles. There are other 3.8s running 9.01s in the quarter mile right now in the grand prix's and currently some fbody guys with turbos that are cracking 11s.
His car I bet right now as it is would do 15.5 in the quarter before the mods. With full exhaust, headers, included, and intake, along with a simple tune would be close to 15.2 to 15.0. Also the mods he is talking about can be had for less than 1k
So please don't be like everyone else and discourage the v6 guys from doing things with their cars. Sure its easy to say get a v8, but have respect for people that want to do things with v6s as well.
Oh yea and I am putting a second stage of nitrous on my stock 3.8l engine this spring as well.

I have realized that doing a v8 swap is not worth the headache(finding engine, tranny, wiring, k member, other parts....plus time to do it. Im just going to enjoy modding my v6 and leave the to headache to the other guys. When I want a v8 I will get a Vette.Originally posted by bri2203If it isn't broke don't fix it.

blah blah blah.....
Most 1/4 miles times that I have seen for 3.8 fbodies stock are from high 15's to mid 16s.
who taught you math?
ram air $134 - $175
whisper lid $99
headers $_____ Couple hundred I would guess
convertor $50-100
cat back exhaust Magnaflow $427 borla 500-800,
installation(assuming he doesn't have a welder)
I supose if you bought it all used it would be under 1000
waste your money however you feel like I was just stating my opnion and I would not spend that kind of cash for such little difference. IMO Adding $500 in performace upgrades will not add any value to the car if it were to be sold. That is how I look at it. I understand that there is a fun aspect to moding for sound, look, and power. If that is what you are looking for then go for it.
You may have more knowledge about superchargers and instalations than I but I would not install a kit on a stock motor that I would drive everyday. The 3.8's that were designed to handle boost were installed in buicks and grand prix GTPs. I am sure there are internal differences to handle more power from the Fbody 3.8 to the supercharge 3.8s.
I would guess adding a supercharger to a 3.8 would make close to 300 hp and a similar amount of torque. The T5 tranmssion are only rated to 300 ftlbs in stock form.Last edited by bri2203; March 13th, 2007, 12:58 AM.

lol, alrighty there buddy
50 cat
200 headers
250 exhaust
100 lid or you can go the free route on this too and shave stocker
Total of $600 with all new parts
Everyone with FI for the most part DD their cars, nothing wrong with it. You make no sense when you tell people a 3.8l engine should not be FI and driven daily.
you can state your opinion but don't give wrong info about mods and the engines ability to perform------------------------------------------

well i would say droping in a carb v8 will cost about the same at the end of the day as modding a 3.8. You can have a nice 350ci making over 300hp for less then u will have a 3.8.Originally posted by ShahI have realized that doing a v8 swap is not worth the headache(finding engine, tranny, wiring, k member, other parts....plus time to do it. i would say with good shoping $700-1100 .
also a good shop could have it and out in no time. Its just when you start tlking add a Fuel injected motor price starts to shoot up in labor and parts
Well sir when it comes down to it do what makes you happy. But My car started as a 3.4 v6 . now it has a lt1 and a th-400 trans.Last edited by Camaroe3; March 13th, 2007, 01:29 AM.1993 Camaro

If people want to mod their v6, let 'em. I give a hell of a lot more respect to someone that modded their v6 to the 12 seconds compared to a v8 that is running 12 seconds.
Why mod an LS1? Why not just by an LS7?
