i originally planned on putting my cutout in front of the second cat. ( Ive got the stupid 97 dual cat y-pipe), so i was wondering if driving the car with the cutout placed there and open will cause the ECU to freakout. Thanks.

Are going to be putting it before an o2 sensor? If not, how far downstream is the cutout from the last o2? I have read that you should not have an o2 sensor within 12" from the end of the exhaust.

I would have the downstream (rear) O2s tuned out and place it before the cats to make the biggest difference. if no cats and your using a y-pipe then after the merge is good too.Doing less with more

Usually people put them in their intermediate pipe - there's a nice bump up in the floor pan on the passenger side rear seat area where most people put the cutout. Only bad part is it's so far downstream that it's not as loud. If I could do it all over again, I'd put my cutouts right off of my primaries...- Brian Meissen

I don't believe the rear O2s will comp at all they are just there to make sure the cats are functioning properly it may throw a code but should not affect the car further than that.Doing less with more

Well then I'll be in the same boat as b with the cutout not being as loud as you would like. And IMO I don't think it's gonna flow drastically better after two cats. After i get my headers and ory I'll move it back there.Originally posted by c0ncEpT View PostI would run it in the cubby hole after the 2nd cat personally.1997 Trans Am

well as it turns out, 1997 is THE worse year for a stock exhaust with e-cutout. i looked under the car tonight and discovered that the individual header pipes stay separate for much much longer than what i think is necessary..
As you can see...

Needless to say i dont need to worry about cats and o2 sensors anymore. i just hope the sound and flow is boosted..
