Is the muffler really needed for back pressure on these cars? i plan on eventually doing a full exhaust with a muffler. but the aftermarket muffler ive got on it now ( while it sounds great) has a hole. so im wondering if i can just put a Y-pipe on the existing exhaust as it comes over the axle and bend some pipes to fit up to the stock hung tips ( and pipes attached to the tips)
and when i get a new muffler i was thinking about the Dynomax ultra-flow.
    All comments welcome
    Thanks, Bryan

The muffler is not needed for back pressure, but any stock exhaust V8 vehicle with the muffler removed will sound like horse crap (think american rice).

It will sound like a dump truck. No exaggeration.

Look up videos with SLP Loudmouth. That bascially has no muffler and should give you an idea of what it will sound like.

Backpressure is NOT needed with an LT1 ever. SBCs like to breathe. Every exhaust enhancement I have done on my car has gained me power. I stopped at 3" duals and I have had many people tell me i wouldnt see a gain with them... that was false.
