  • Ses p0507

The other day the SES light came on my car and tonight I scanned it and it was p0507 high idle/high idle searching.

After doing some research it sounds like this is a pretty vague code. Obviously it is something with the intake. Many people assume its the IAC but most threads that are started in Ls1 or Ls1tech never seem to be followed up after getting the situation resolved.

The car has idled high since I have gotten the car.. After starting it up it will idle fine, but after driving it for a while and then shifting into neutral it will hang at about 1700rpm and then eventually drop back down to about 800rpm. The RPM's do not jump around at all, its the same situation every time.

I have been advised that maybe I need to clean the MAF, I figure that cleaning the entire intake system may help.

I am hoping someone has some experience with this problem so I am not on a wild goose chase. If I am however this month is the end of the season for me as bow season starts October 1st.

If anyone could help it would be great.
    -Shane

The car is a 1999 LS1 M6. P/P Throttle Body, LS6 Intake, and full bolt ons and it was tuned by frost.

have you talked to the tuner about it? i'd suggest cleaning the maf with maf cleaner, and taking the IAC out and cleaning it. i tried that with mine, but ended up buyin a new IAC. over 100 bucks if i remember right too.

I PM'd Mike (mcalus) about it since its his old car, and he said this is the first time the SES light has come on since the tune and he is the one that recommended cleaning the MAF. I also have read up quite a bit on the IAC and cleaning it. I have spent hours tonight reading up on the LS1 motor. I used to be able to rebuild small engines in my sleep so hopefully I will be able to figure this out before I put it away for the winter.

The car is running fine. I reset the check engine light and haven't driven it yet, so I will see how it goes. I am just looking for some ideas and things to check out. I don't want to mess anything up in the process. lol

I'll check for this, is the easiest way with a propane torch (obviously not lit)? Also the idles don't jump around. It will idle high once shifted into neutral and then it will eventually idle down to where it should be after a little bit.

I am hoping to get to work on this tonight. I am going to go to town here in a minute and try to find some MAF cleaner and if I can't I will just get some rubbing alcohol to clean the MAF.

i thought of vac leak but if it goes back down after a while it didnt make sense to me.. i used brake cleaner. spray around the intake, the throttle body and all the vac lines. i've had lots of vac leaks.. lol

IAC learn and will take away air.
airflow tune may be off enough that its staying up then the IAC is closing enough to overcome.
              can you watch IAC steps?

I can't watch the IAC steps. I just have the Actron Autoscanner and I don't believe it can do that.

Today I got some MAF cleaner.
So this is going to be my plan: Clean the MAF sensor, clean the IAC, take a propane torch and look for vacuum leaks, and then actually look to make sure the TB is closing completely and not getting hung up.

As many others know having a young kid (15 month old) makes time difficult and I also just got home from Traverse City and my garage door opener sheered off the gear on top the motor. lol

I'll get it figured out. It has idled high since I got it from you but I just figured that it had something to do with the tune.
The garage door does suck. It cost me 180 bucks to pick up a new one today. I was getting ready to order UMI 3pt subframe connectors.

Sounds like a dirty IAC or slow IAC and or dirty IAC passages in the intake manifold or dirthy throttle body. My Saturn does this once a year especially in cooler temps. I clean the IAC and the intake passages and throttle body the idle is fine.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Get carb cleaner and spray around the intake, injector orings, map sensor, ect.

I really dont think its a vacuum leak. I left the back vacuum port on the intake unplugged after I put my motor in, and its idled perfect. I blocked it off...... no difference what so ever. But thats just me.
