The converters are very civil in these cars due to the lockup clutch. I did a 224r cam (.581 lift) and I'm very satisfied with it. Makes a lot more power but still very civilized.
When in doubt, Whip it out !

Im running the TR 224 cam, basically the same as don, with a 4200 converter with lockup. I LOVE it, if you get a smaller converter you will get hooked and end up going bigger later, save yourself the trouble.

          i cammed (LSR 223/232 .610/.617 112LSA
) my car a few summers ago and ran with a stock torque converter for 2ish seasons. I didnt figure it was a huge deal, yeah it was slower down low but i wasnt racing so no biggy. This spring i finally got a tci super street fighter 3600 rpm stall and i realized i was wrong, my car is awhole different monster now. I see now camming my car without the TC was almost useless.

lol, i'm listening to all the info coming at me. I have not done any spending as of yet! I figured I was going to go with a torque converter after what a lot of people have been saying. Any opinions on the cam, I know 1999Black_Z28 has some springs for sale used iirc pac1518's? Just looking more for opinions on the cam and recomendations (if any) i'm pretty set on getting the converter now

IMO it's hard to put a wrong cam in a LS - stay in the mid 220 to low 230 range and you'll be happy. I really like my SI5 (231/237) - it's more tame than I though it'd be....
