  • I need a lil help here

I did some searching but nothing really answered my question. First off I have never bought or put header on anything I owned. The motor is out and Im cleaning it up and doing things here and there.

Im looking at these headers: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-68479/?rtype=10

    paired with these:

priced fair but I was also hoping to get a header, Y-pipe combo but looks like I will have to buy them seperate. I read to stay away from the FlowTechs.

One question I have is which is better the "ball and socket" or 3 bolt flange ?

Headers will be for mostly 98% stock 5.7

thanks for info, ideas, and knowledge

Those Hedman's are very simular to the Flotech's. I will say they are a little nicer craftsmanship and heavier wall tubing. I've installed many different headers for 3rd gens over the years and by far the best quality were SLP stainless shorty headers. They fit great and come with a matching y-pipe. The next step up would be a full length header and for that I would look at Stainless Works but you will have to have a custom y-pipe made. For what you have, I would keep your eyes peeled for a used SLP set. I know I sold mine several years ago for like $250.

Oh...ball and socket are better than the flat 3 bolt flange.

i have the headers in ur first post on my can and they do fit well. had them for 3 years no leaks. i did also buy the y pipe but had to modify it to my application since i have a moroso 6qt oil pan. overall quallity seems pretty good.
