What mufflers for LT1 TD setup?

I took the 'bird up to my exhaust guy a little while ago, and at first, he didn't want to touch it, but I was able to talk him into it. . . The shop I use does EXCELLENT work, and I know they will do a great job on a true dual setup. . . Here's what I'm looking at. . .

Pipes coming from the headers back to the existing exit location for the Y-Pipe, but with an x-pipe in place of the current Y. After the x-pipe, he's going to put a short piece of pipe there to flare the pipes away from each other enough to fit a pair of bullet-style mufflers. After the mufflers, the pipes are going to dump right before the rear axle.

Right now, I'm just trying to figure out which mufflers would give me the best "Bang for the Buck". I'm on a budget here, I already have the section from the x-pipe forward, all I need the shop to do is pull off the old stuff, install what I already have, then bend the pipes and install the mufflers, turndowns, and exhaust hangers.

So, anybody know what reasonably priced mufflers would sound good on my car? Looking for 3" in/out "Bullet" style mufflers.

Dynomax bullets, about the cheapest out there. They will rattle your brains out though, may as well run straight pipe. I have the 4 inch on my plymouth. Didnt change the db at all, just the tone very little. Eric L

Yeah, but straight pipes are illegal. . .

How about Thrush Glasspacks? They are made by Dynomax, I can get them for $20 each new, and at 3" inside diameter, it isn't really going to do much to muffle the sound any better/worse than a Dynomax bullet. . . The Dynomax bullets are $45 each online, give or take a few bucks, plus shipping.

I would try to get the quitest you can find. It is still going to be crazy loud.

I think I'll go with the thrush glasspacks, I know it's going to be insanely loud. I realized that I don't really drive the car much, and thought it might be cool to have a TD setup made up for the car so I can enjoy it a little more. When I do take it out on the streets, I'm going more for the "OMG, I can't believe I just saw/heard that! I want one!" response from random people than the "Oh look, another person who thinks his clapped-out LT1 is cool." I don't mind the car being loud. As I've mentioned before, when I start my car, I want people to think the world is coming to an end. Oh yeah, and the fact that it's soon to be completely de-badged, I think it'll be kinda cool for the Mustang guys (who think they know everything about everything) to argue with me about my car having a V8, because it doesn't have any markings on the body, and there are no exhaust pipes coming out the back. Then, I get to start it up, and prove them wrong. My engine bay is hideous, so I'm not a big fan of popping the hood. . . lol

check out my youtube videos to see what flowmaster delta 40s sound like. thrush mufflers will sound similar like nate suggested. Bad thing about full-size muffles is you gotta clearance the seat pockets a bit.

Moroso spiral flow will be the quietest bullet style muffler.

If my car can sound ANYTHING like yours when it's done, I'll be happy. . . I think I'm going to do heads/cam/intake at some point in the next couple of years, so I'm sure my car will eventually "grow into" it's exhaust system. . . lol

Moroso is something I may consider if the Thrush glasspacks are too loud. I'll pick up the thrush mufflers this week, and have the system made up with those. I can always switch later. Not to mention, a pair of Thrush glasspacks costs less than a single Moroso SpiralFlow. . . I'll post up video soundclips after it's all said and done. Should have something decent put together by middle of next week.

I bought my imco Flowmaster 40 sound alikes for 60 bucks for the 2, well more like 64 new. lol there awesome.

For some reason, my muffler guy doesn't want to even attempt it with full-size mufflers. He said he didn't think he could fit them up far enough to avoid scraping. . . My car is lowered, BTW. I think I'm pretty much stuck with bullets/glasspacks, unless I'm willing to raise the car back up 1 1/2" or so (I'm not) or downgrade to a smaller pipe (also not going to happen). I found Moroso Spiral Flow mufflers for like $51 each (plus shipping), I'll probably just go with those. According to every parts store and website I've looked at, the 3" i.d. Thrush Glasspacks are a special-order part, and they run about $72 each.

I'll have to see what I can find, I'm going to hold off on this for a while, I've got some other things I need to take care of right now. . . Probably take the car in to have it done in a couple of weeks.

yeah with it being lowered it would be tuff to stick some flowmasters under there with some clearance, you would REALLY have to clearance the back seats lol!

Eh, who needs back seats anyways. I'll just take those out. I'll own the first F-Body with a full-on "Exhaust Tunnel". lol

I'm probably going to go with the Spiral Flow's, they'll probably be quietest. . . and only about 6-7 dB quieter than open headers, according to Moroso's catalog. . .

Um i was not talking about thrush glassbacks if it was my post that made you consider that. the glasspacks will sound absolutely nothing like my car. No bullet or glasspack will, regardless of brand.

I clearanced my seat pockets a good 2" and the rear seats look just the same from the interior.

Do the back seats feel the same way to passengers unlucky enough to have to ride back there? How did you clearance them? BFH mod?
