Brian I have to ask, why does the Y-pipe affect clearance with the K-member? are the collectors closer to the k-member on the LT1 cars or something?

    Used to own a Firebird.

Not sure I understand the question - the intermediate pipe sliding into the y-pipe will affect clearance because the intermediate pipe will "lift" the y-pipe up if the y-pipe is hanging down and the intermediate pipe is hung properly and not just hanging loose too.

I have installed 2 sets of LPP's and they sucked!

I have NEVER moded my K-member or any primary's on any set of Pace Setters or Hookers LT's!

I dislike LPP's design because of all the mods you HAVE to do just to get them to fit and how they curve right under the starter, it's a real pain!

Stainless is nice but will radiate more heat into the engine bay than a Coated header will hands down!

And coated headers will last X months/years while stainless will last forever.

For what it's worth - I haven't modified my K-member at all nor did I bend any primaries on the headers. The only thing I had to do was unbolt my steering column and push the steering column towards the center of the car while bolting it back up. The difference inside the car is completely unnoticeable but it gave me at least a half inch more of clearance. I'd be willing to bet the two cars you installed the LPPs on had something else going on with them - old motor mounts, old trans mount, tweaked frontend, intermediate pipe hung differently than how mine is, etc... I just don't understand how a batch of headers all made on the same jig can be that different.

Ya know exhaust is sooooooo Overrated. open heads would be fine i mean hey you might lose a valve or two or possibly your whole head. but thats a chance you take when you build a car.

Open headers in and around RO good luck buddy. You have heard my car and I have already been pulled over twice for "loud" exhaust and being asked if its legal. I think mine is quiet! Just suck it up and buy something!
