  • Exhaust System

Anyone ever buy a Jegs exhaust kit before (or hear anything about them)?

I've been really wanting to get a cutout here, but I'd also like to get a 3" exhaust system (right now I'm running the stock 2.25" pipes), so I've been looking at whether to go to S&K to have them custom bend me a setup and just weld in the cutout, or to just buy the entire pipe set (comes with a muffler, but I can sell that) from Jegs, and have "my" mechanic weld it up with the cutout as well.

    Any ideas?

i'd look into a kit such as a hooker 3 inch areochamber cat back like i what i have.. and then just get the nice wide clamps that look nice and use that incase you have to take it apart for some reason..

      Hmm.

I think I'm gonna have to take a trip up to my local exhaust shop (my dad tells me they do real good work), see what they'll charge to bend up a 3" intermediate pipe and probably 2.5" tailpipes. I'd also buy a cutout and just have the weld that up, along with the electric part, then I could wire it up.

I think I could probably use my current tips, but I need to pull them in a little bit.

I'd probably use my current muffler, since it sounds pretty good to me.

So regarding cutouts - Does the brand Summit sells...Quick Time Performance, make quality e-cutouts?

I have heard mixed reviews from QTP cutouts. I would use DMH as I hear nothing but good about there products.

I was thinking DMH as well, just comes with a Flowtech cutout anyways.

Now, I'm wondering how I would go about getting the wire into the interior, and...and where I would put it.

The 4th gens have multiple 3/4inch holes drilled under the floor pans with rubber plugs filling them. I'm not sure if the 3rd gens have them. I ran my wire up through a factory hole. 6 inchs or so where I have the cut out.

3rd gens have the exact same floor pan as a 3rd gen from the firewall back so all the same holes should be there.

Where abouts are these plugged holes located on the floorboards?

Almost.....no rubber plugged drain holes in 3rd gens....besides, that they are very close excluding the front subframe rails.

So would I do as Nathan suggested and just run it into the car via firewall?

                        why not it'd be easier

for a exhaust system duals are sweet

my buddy got his done for 250 but he had the x pipe and mufflers and it sits tucked up same height as stock 4th gen exhaust

Okay, so I'll have to measure that up.

I know that S&K is expensive, so that might be a factor, and I might just get the Jegs setup. It's aluminized and it's mandrel bent. The tailpipes I have on there now are 2.25" I think, so I could probably use my tips and just have my guy weld them on back to where it's 2.5" (which is how big the Jegs' kit's tailpipes are).

Dual exhaust sounds like a good idea, but the only reason I'm not going with that approach is because

                          A) It costs more
                          B) The power/money beneifit will be very small - if at all positive
                          C) I would need two cutouts, as opposed to one.

Well, I just went out and measured, and the exhaust system is actually 2.5", but it's not mandrel bent.

Would it be benificial to move up to a 3" mandrel bent intermediate pipe?

depending on the power you expect to make 3" duels is usaly more than plenty. it probaly won't hurt performance but 2.5 or 2.75 is good
but yes on the mandrel bent.
