I'am by no means a car nut. I know basic things but a lot of this technical stuf is very confusing to me. I'd like to get headers for my Camaro, but I have no idea what I'am looking for. Full length, shortys? What am I looking for??

Basic rule is that shorties are for torque and long tubes are for horsepower. Your best bet is probably the pacesetter long tubes if you are on a budget. They fit pretty well and are cheap. Dont forget that you also need a y-pipe to go along with it. You can go with the off-road (catless) Y or a catted Y for a pretty penny.

I should probably rephrase that, I think it works more like this:

Shorties retain more backpressure which means you should see better low end power gains.

Long tubes are less restrictive so you would gain more power but possibly use some of your low end power due to less backpressure.

Someone correct me if im wrong, im still learning too lol

Longtubes or dont bother. Shorties are NOT going to enhance torque by any means. They offer less power gains than a long tube, and thats all there is to it. Backpressure is never a good thing. It is capable of shifting your power curve... in one direction: down.

longtubes will shift the power curve up some, and it does tend to be more noticeable with an automatic than a manual. I personally dont think i lost any torque at all. If anything i have to sidestep the clutch 200 rpm higher than i used to... but i make power 2000 rpms higher than i used to... so the trade off is plenty skewed in your favor.

I dunno Joel, Usually I trust your judgement and you very well could be right, but I have shorty/mid length headers but for some reason all my Z's power is in the highend, the LT4 hotcam maybe? If I put longtubes on....

Mine are just painted and they still show no rust. Just get some aircraft grade shit like Jeff has on his and you will be set.

I would suggest long tubes. They seem to be the most popular that I have seen.

well yea, a cam has a lot more effect on powerband than headers do.

Your gonna buy pacesetter longtubes with a y-pipe without cats and thats all there is to it Coated ones are preferred but we could buy some coating and I could spray them at work. I'll keep an eye out but the best place to look is ls1tech in the for sale section, other brands will be fine just check with me first.
