  • Whoa! Awesome Find!

I was just making a list of all of the things I have for my V8 swap, and I realized that I have a full true dual exhaust system with cleaned out cats and Flowmaster mufflers! I didn't even think about it! I realized that, since the exhaust system on my Buick was a relatively straight-back system, I could cut and bend the pipes to fit the Camaro, and just weld them in place! I think I might get a pipe to weld that to to bolt it to the manifolds on the V6, and then just get another peice to bolt to the headers when I swap in the V8. The Camaro exhaust is a relatively simple design too, right? Nothing too complicated? If not, I can install it myself in my driveway! I'm so excited!

Why did you have a flowmaster exhaust on your buick.

Because we had to put in new exhaust after my dad's accident. . . we were hit, and the guy that rear-ended the buick fled the scene. We decided, we have to install new, the PLPD won't give us anything, why not install something nice? lol LT1, too. That Buick was faster than my Camaro (before new driveshaft) lol

that's funny. i can just imagine a buick with a loud a$$ exhaust!... well true duals in a maro is a little harder, cause there isn't very much room between the driveshaft, torque arm, and the tunnel. plus, i've heard people losing HP becuase they lose backpressure. True Duals is not the way to go unless your car is built to the max. just my $0.02

Maybe I'll just cough up the hundreds of dollars to buy a catback?
          Anybody want to contribute?

well true duals are fine on a v-8 you put it on a v-6 its pretty much pointless but with true duals unless you get custom oval pipe not the standard round... it will not fit in the exhaust "valley" ill call it... it will hang lower like mine does below the body... so the only thing that sucks about that you cant lower the car to the ground much more.. i would say wait till you put the v-8 in and see what you can salvage it probably will take some bending but it might still work...

I am going to wait until I install the V8, the V6 already has Glasspacks, which flow much better than stock anyway. Thanks for the suggestion! Keep posting, guys!

wait until the v8, and get a good muffler, not the flowbads.

do i need to go over this here? There has never been dyno proof of flowmaster lowering power, and if tehy are so bad why does every competitor have a version of their muffler? Also look at race tracks there are very few muffler brands used in the pro classes 9all use a muffler now as NHRA rules require it on all cars except dragster class)

Arch, its in all likelyhood due to the fact that lots and lots of people started using them so they became too common like TTII's so people just started coming up with bogus reasons why they are bad.

I love my Flowmasters. I have had them on 4 vehicles in the past 3 years, and I don't think I have found a brand that I liked more. If it's a matter of personal opinion, let me know that you are stating your opinion. If you can provide documented evidence that a set of Flowmasters will make the performance of my car suffer, I would like to see that. IMO, anything is better than the stock mufflers!

yeah i think people judge flowmaster bad because it's like.... "well everyone has 'em so they'er gay" ya know. my friend had a 50 series on his HEMI ram....(the thing was loaded. kick ass truck) anyways....and he took out the second resonator. his truck sounded like a BEAST. i loved his flow that he had. but he got rid of the truck, and sold everything off it to another friend of mine witha ram lol

But in my honest opinion. i think Flow's sound not too good on V6's im not tryin to step on anyones toes. and please no one take offense to this but i think V6's sound bad with loud exhaust's on them. the only V6 i've heard that i think sounded good is Tim Mackmans (spellin on tims last name? sorry tim) 3.8 Bird with the pacesetter headers and i think he's got the MagnaFlow exhaust. his car sounds pretty wicked.

I'm not doing anything to the exhaust on my V6, the thread was started to get input on whether or not to use the flowmasters I already have on my Buick. The motor and trans are coming out of it, why not use the mufflers too? lol I might just pay up and buy a Borla or GGMG Cat-Back system.
