I currently have SLP shorties installed and don't like the fact that their so close to the firewall and air conditioner stuff on the passenger side. I also have some heat wrap around the air conditioning stuff but it's stating to fade where it's close to the header. I've decided to upgrade my cam to a Hotcam setup and will also be going to LT's and a new y-pipe. What LT's out there give you the best fitment in the engine compartment along with sufficient ground clearance?(I have Eibach Pro Springs). I will either go with the Kooks, Hooker or Pacesetter, whatever fits the best....

    Thanks in advance

Excellent Joel! Just what I'm looking for. How is the clearance to the starter, oil filter and pass side air con stuff? Did you go with their coating or have someone else do it?

        Thanks again!

Did you use their y-pipe too? I'm going to stick with my TOTL catback. I will have my Ceramic coated SLP Shorties and Random Tech dual cat y-pipes up for sale soon if you know anyone thats interested; approx 6k miles on both..

nope i had custom one made, which i recommend doing because of the clearance on the driver side. I actually had to force my floor board up just a hair to make it fit without vibrating/hitting. I also have a 2OTL catback on mine. believe it or not, my car with longtubes and an ORY wasnt any louder than stock cats/manifolds (until i open the cutout of course, then its REALLY loud).

i had jethot headers they sucked as far as fitment, and i've seen a lot of other brand of headers and installed a few...go with the pace setters, with the LS1 they are the least expensive and they fit the easiest. they just slip right in from the bottom. almost every other header i've seen you need to remove the steering shaft or pull the oil filter and cover piece above the filter.....the pace setters just slide right in

So did you have to drive it with open headers to a muffler shop???
                  Any installation tips for me???

                    you bet i did!!!

                    installation tips:
-go buy 3 cans of PB blaster. WD40 is NOT a substitute for this miracle worker. use one entire can on ALL bolts, especially the y-pipe bolts at least 12 hours before you begin.
-if you cant get the header to fit after a minute or so of trying, DONT FORCE IT. stop what you are doing, and unmount the engine. its easy to do. jack the motor up just enough so the mount bolt has neither weight nor lift on it, and it will slide right out. once the bolts out you can jack the motor up and you will have all kinds of room to drop the header in. reattaching the mount is easier than getting it apart.
-youre going to have a fun time with the alternator area... GM put about 4 more brackets on that damn thing than necessary. I threw at least one in the field after it took me 2 hours to get off. also the steering linkage - it took me forever to get that back together. i dont have any tips for ya on that though.
-youre going to need an assortment of unversal joints and extensions.

One more question for ya... did you try thier y-pipe and the fittage sucked? Or did you hear from someone else that a custom y-pipe was the way to go?

no, i wanted NOTHING to do with a slip fit pipe... i helped my buddy install one and i will never touch another one. Flanges are where its at, plus a custom pipe will tuck up better.

                              Hey Joel,

Did the headers come with flanges where they connect to the y-pipe or did you have to have them welded on????
