My big objection to this plan would be if you are running the factory cam. Even turbomufflers sound like crap on a low-performance engine (witness all the jacked up 4x4s in Mount Pleasant with Flowmasters), I'm sure a cutout would just exacerbate the problem.

What about if I did pacesetter's first? That should help dramaticly right? It seemed to for this guy.

There are quite a few guys in the v6 scene with cutouts, not that rare really...

2.5 piping is the way to go on a v6 IMO
My v8 has just as much rasp with the cutout open as anything, But I think the raspy note my car makes on decel sounds BAD ASS

don't go buy a car sound cat, it will make it sound worse! reason being, i have gone through two, and BOTH have given me constant rattling in the low rpm range.. every time i take off i hear it... im just going to straight pipe it and i'll see how much of a difference it really makes.. the cat sounds really good if its working correctly.. but ive had problems with both of mine. these are the $60-70 ebay carsound / magnaflow cats i'm talking about... ive talked to a few other members (on another site) with them, and they are having the same problems

Ok, so a cut out on a v6 is probably a bad idea, I know to stay away from the flowmasters, and Ive herd clips of magnaflows, borla, and tsp. Do they all really sound that raspy and high pitched in real life or is it the cameras that make them sound like that?

i think they sound like that in real life im sure.. mine does over 4k rpm but you really don't need to rev it that high anyway.. and our 3.8's make just as much torque on the low end as the top so theres no point revving it like that all the time driving around town.

but anyway what is a bullett cat?

a cutout is not a bad idea if you are modded to the point of needing one or just want one for the loudness factor.

random technology makes them, they are small and flow a ton as there is hardly anything to them. It is on my brother's car and it didn't set off the SES light either for the cat like most aftermarket ones do

I had the exhaust cut off right after the cat on my old 96 3.8 for a week or two.

It sounded really bad, straight up rice sounding IMO

Although I thought my flowmaster with turn-downs sounded decent

Hey i have the 2.5 inch magnaflow cat back, with a magnaflow highflow cat, and i love how it sounds. Not much rasp at all since the high flow cat was put on. and it's got nice tone. If i were you spend the extra money and get a magnaflow system, the cat probally doesn't matter as much, but if your looking for a good price on a cat, look up GVVS or zzp.
