  • Trans Am Fuel Pump?

well today i drove about 50 miles to get my window fixed (which is fixed btw) but she drove great there and back although driving back once i got off the freeway the temp went up to 210 normally it runs around 180-190.. i backed out of my driveway to go to my neighbors. got to my neighbors and let it sit off for about 15 minutes. it started up great but there was a whining noise that i thought was the fans i drove the 15 feet up my driveway and it stalled. it restarted but only if i gave it gas.. once i turn the key to acc. the fuel pump kicks on but doesnt sound as fast as it used to..
    what happened?!

Sounds like the fuel pump is on it's way out. Unfortunately the LT1 fuel pump sits in the tank and the gas in the tank cools the pump. So when people let their gas tank get below 1/4th full, the fuel pump starts getting hot, overheats, and dies.

If you do decide to change the pump, I'd definitely recommend going with the trap door method... makes the job extremely easy.

Trap door method for sure., and I would recommened The Racetronix fuel pump kit with the harness. Just installed this on my car it was an easy install and I like the 43# fuel pressure!

I was just gonna say if you plan on future mods requiring more fuel heads cams ect you might as well drop in something like a Walboro 255 or a Racetronix.

Check you fluids, what bothers me is it overheating, check oil, antifreeze.

Once i let it it cool off i checked the coolant- full, oil-full, trans fluid-full. Put the key in the start position to listen for the pump and it came on a little slower than normal. started it and it ran fine..
no signs of any rough idle at all..

The whirring sound could have been fans running, Your battery/altenator could be weak and with the fans running you did not put out enough to keep running. your battery should rean 12.5 to 13 volts before you start engine and while running should read 13.5 14.0 volts both at the bat. and at alt. terminal.

You should check your fuel pressure. Should be over 40 psi.

When the fuel pump died in my Camaro, it was at 3 psi. That's not a typo either.

Yea, I would even say 40 would be bad. Supposed to be 58 @ 12v right?

I would just borrow or rent a mechanical one. On the drivers side of the fuel rail there is a black plastic cap. Take it off, there is a schrader valve there (like a bike tire valve), hook the gauge to that and see what it says.

I believe if you want to hook a gauge up to the schrader valve you have to take the valve out of it, though. I remember doing that to my own.

Driving around today the fuel pump is making a humming noise that I haven't noticed before. Also the alt. Has made a ticking noise since I bought the car but its always held a steady charge but I've noticed it losing its charge and drawing on the engine at an idle ( which obviously makes the whine on the fuel pump louder and sound. Slower) so could this alt be the issue?
P.s I think the ticking noise in the alt is the bearing. It looks like an original alt.
                              Thanks guy
