I've had good luck with Optima's, Dad put a Yellow Top in the Monte Carlo about 7-8 years ago, it's still going strong. When the battery went bad in the truck, I stole the Optima, and it's still holding up fine. I have a Duralast Gold in the Firebird, came with the free roadside assistance deal, so I'm not afraid of it leaving me stranded, I can just call the number on the battery and get a free jump. lol

Autocraft makes a decent sealed wet-cell motorcycle battery, too. That's what was in my Katana, just bought a new one for the Gixxer.

Older Optima's are good batteries, it's just within the last 4-5 years they took a shit..

I have an optima in my race car, but its one of the good older ones, from 05. In my Camaro I run AC Delco pretty much exclusively. I had an AC Delco in my 1997 Monte carlo for 10 years, and its still in the car now that my brother in law has it..............13 years later. Eric L

IMHO, the biggest factor in battery life is proper care. Yeah, some batteries are just BAD from the get go, but for the most part, as long as they arent constantly discharged, and if they are, they are properly trickle charged back to factory spec, they hold up alright. Eric L

I agree, but Optima is just junk now.. Only reason I got another battery is because someone at the paint shop dropped mine.. I bought the new one, but it gets deducted from what I owe.. I had the Duralast gold for 2 years with no issues That's why, in the end, I bought another..

I say they need to make all batteries like my dad's stock one in his '98 E-150.

We just replaced that thing two winters ago, and I think it probably would've lasted longer had the alternator not gone 6 months later...
