  • heat soak

Once my car gets hot, the starter doesnt like turning over, I know its getting caused by heatsoak, just wondering if anyone has had similar problems and how they corrected it. Thanks ahead of time.

Are the headers coated or uncoated? Ive never had a problem though, but I have shorty headers. Good luck. Eric L

Don't think that's it. . .I have un-coated longtubes, and I don't have any problems like that. Maybe the starter is just going out?

I've had this issue. Every starter checked out fine at the autoparts store but would continue to issue. I kept replacing them (even going with high torque unit once) figuring the test was wrong. Finally realized it was heat soak from my BBK shorties. Installed a remote solenoid - haven't had an issue since.

I was going to say the same thing. Not that I've had the issue but I was going to suggest a remote location.

The problem with a bench test is it does not put the item underload. A starter has to turn over a compression of a motor plus the rotating assembly. On a bench it just free spins. So you have to listen to the sound to see if you should replace it or not.

did you use a ford remote solenoid or one of the jegs/summit remote solenoids?

Use a Ford. You'll probably get it much cheaper than a Jegs unit and its just a solenoid. Not like you're going to gain power because you used one over the other, you know?

I got mine from Jegs, along with a remote starter switch and junction box (to replace my stock pinkish one with no lid). The Ford one may have been a tad cheaper but only by a couple of dollars, the Jegs one isn't that badly priced.
