I'd suggest doing that to rule out a fuel issue.

yeah, thats what I thought but apparently I was wrong. GM usually stores a code for every little thing!

I would check your fuel pressure for 1.

I had a car like your's that I worked on that was acting the same way, run like crap then all the sudden it would run like a champ.
They ended up getting stranded because the opti was going out.
I know it's not what you wanted to hear but it's a strong possibility.

If you still have that test I gave you about a month ago will help you out checking the opti, ICM and coil, all you need is a volt meter.

FWIW - I left the shoutbox after I posted my stuff so I dunno if you saw it or not.

DTC 16 - Low Resolution Pulse will NOT trigger the SES light. According to my OEM Service Manual for '95, Fuel pump and injector operation will be disabled by the PCM if DTC 16 is set. DTC 16 will set when 720 high resolution timing pulses are detected before any low resolution pulses are detected.

DTC 36 on the other hand WILL illuminate the SES light and that's it. The PCM will NOT do anything else when DTC 36 is tripped and according to the OEM Service Manual for '95, it does NOT say that it is stored in the PCM's memory. DTC 36 will set when 40 low resolution pulses occur before any high resolution pulses are detected.

Comparing the two - only takes 40 low pulses to occur to trip DTC 36 which would seem like it'd be more common. If your Check Engine indicator trips because of the optispark, it's going to be DTC 36 and more than likely when someone scans they'll just happen upon DTC 16 at the same time.

I still think it's the optispark.

There ya go - that's exactly what Missy needs. I offered to do it at the Spring or Summer Meet & Greet but I realized afterwards that my cable is for a 1995 specifically and wouldn't work on her 1994.

Well Missy, it seems as if your camaro has caught what my camaro has. A very nasty case of the FU's lol. M94 z28 has been laid up since April 30th with relatively the same problems. but mine would die out once it warmed up and would not rev above 3grand. SO i ran all the preliminary tests fuel, spark, did the oil, new thermo, new fuel filter. new plugs, checked my fuses. THen i scanned it-12 codes scanned out. i took it to my mechanic he did a new oil pressure switch a few other things re scanned it got 5 codes. i took it back bc he didnt know where to go. so i took it to a hot rod guy my friend(owns a S/C 91 Z28) recommended. He scaned got a code of no crank signal..replaced the opti ($1300) then it started, but wouldnt accellerate. rand the prelims again fuel pressure tested fine and comp was between 140-150/ cyl. got a low vacumn at idle. so he checked for a clogged cat which came up fine and with straight headed ran 4" vacuum. now he did a timing chain for me...trying to the car is a PITA. Basically what I'm trying to tell you here is don't throw parts at the problem it doesn't help. take your time and run every test twice. keep scanning. I was also told by another mechanic to take the covers off the harness and to run my finger down every wire. if i feel a bump it is probably a corroded wire and that could be the problem since corrosion is a resistor and heat adds resistance. in the end all i have to say is GOOD LUCK I'm pulling for you and if you figure it out please tell my what you fixed/replaced. i cant take it anymore.
                        Good Luck

Well I drove the camaro to work today. Ran perfectly the entire way here. My buddy Brian(one of the techs) and I are going to use a scan tool on it if I can get it to act up today and see what we can come up with....
Im hoping I can atleast find something!

The scan tool should tell you if there's any stored DTCs.

coil signal wire could be arcing out, swomp rat on here had that. if you where closer to bay city or i was comming that way i could bring over my laptop (i have tuner cats and data master) it could also still be the opti.
