  • Sputtering problem...PLEASE help

So my 94 z28 had recently developed a bad missing problem. It was not a constant thing. The car usually waited till it was warm before it started to miss. Well I changed the plugs and wires and the car still runs like crap. There is no check engine light on. I took the car to a buddies shop and put the code scanner on it, and nothing came up. A few people told me to try unplugging the maf sensor, did that and the car continued to miss. Anybody have any ideas???

Car is stock. Just has an exhaust and no cats.
    almost 140,000 miles.....

Have you changed the fuel filter in the past say 50,000 miles?
Have you tried fuel injector cleaner?

I know Joel posted his Vid of his car and you said that was the same thing yours was doing.

Can you tell if it's only when the car is cold or heated up?
Does it happen in higher RPM's or lower RPM's?
    How's the idle?

Missy I know I mentioned it in the box but if you could get a video of your car that would help some of the guys opinions. I know you said you cant post it but I am sure if you send it to Brian, (his number is in his sig) he would gladly post it up for you!

I just got the car 2 months ago. Im going to buy a fuel filter and change it, (only 16.00 for delco) so i dont know if it has ever been changed.

It used to only miss when the car was warmer, but now it does it when i first start it. Idle isnt bad, sometimes it will shutter tho and act like it wants to stall, so i will hold the brake and hold the gas around like 1,200rpm and that will help but i can still feel it missing while im doing that. I will go for a drive down the road in a bit and take a video and send it to someone to post for me.

start with the fuel filter and try and get a fuel pressure gauge on it. Sounds like it could be the pump, then again its an LT1 so it could be an opticrap, they seem to cause endless problems.

Missy, besides plugs and wires have you done anything else to the car?

Air filter? if yes, what kind?

              Any thing else?

Missey earlier you posted in shout box that it seemed to miss when volt meter was reading 17-18 volts is this still the case or not?
Reason I asked is there are several grounds, 4 by spark coil asm. that could tie the 2 problems together.

What kind of wires did you use? Joel used MSD I think? He had a ton of problems so he went back to AC Delco and I think that fixed his miss? I can't remember exactly tho. Hopefully he'll chime in.

i used ac delco platinum plugs and ac delco wires. Everyone has told me they seem to run better with those so thats what i got

Yup yup, ac delcos are the way to go. Honestly, it sounds almost exactly like my car did about a month ago. My problem ended up being the opti. Took it apart and had a bunch of corrosion and shit in the bottom of it. I know its expensive to fix, it sucks :/

I'm starting to lean towards the Opti more and more.

But I'd definitely check the fuel pressure and replace the fuel filter, as well.

I bet its your opti looks like someones going with a 95 Opti spark
in all honesty the 94's are vented like crap when i took mine out it was corroded like crazy

I had a car that did the shuttering at 50 MPh and up. It ended up being one of the coil packs had stop producing enough spark.
