  • Gauge Cluster Replacement

Does any one know where i would need to take a new Gauge Cluster to have the Odometer set to the same milage as my current Odometer?

I just purchased this 1997 digital gauge cluster off ebay, and i will need to move the Odometer back to ~76,000.

    Yes

Call these guys www.autoinstruments.com at 877-450-0110 and I am sure they can help you out. I was going to have the exact same thing done on my 83 TA. In fact my gauge cluster is there in Virginia right as we speak being recalibrated and refaced to 160mph. I cant remember what he said the charge was for resetting the odometer, but I think it was around $100 or something like that for mine, but yours may be more or less due to being newer or whatever.

One thing really nice about this place is that if you send in your intire cluster they will check everything on it for proper function and let you know of any problems free of charge before they do any work and then they will call you and leave it up to you to decide exactly what you want them to do.

As far as prices the only ones I know are for the 82-84 Bird gauges and they are :
Speedometer rebuild and repair : $175
Speedometer recal. and reface : $125
Tachometer recal. and reface : $125
    auxilary gauges calibration : $125
odometer reset to desired setting : $100 (I think)

but I do know they will restore, repair, or modify pretty much anything you want from what I've heard from other people.

All you have to do it download the repair order form from their website, fill it out, pack it in with the parts you need done and ship it to them, when they get it and inspect and test everything they will then call you with results and ask what you want done....oh, and they ship it back free.

Wow, I did not know it was that expensive to reset an odometer. Thought it would be a quick and cheap 10 min job at most.

It may be cheaper for yours, especially being that its electronic. They may be able to just plug it in and reset it. You should call them and ask.......and come on now man, you should know by now that nothing is cheap anymore...lol

Can a pontiac dealer/service department reset an odometer too?

I doubt it since it's probably illegal to tamper with the odometer.

a dealer should be able to setup a new cluster. in all likely hood, however, they will require the car brought in with the original cluster, so they can swap in the new one with the correct mileage. i highly doubt they would just program a cluster for you to whatever mileage you give them.

i know for certain, bmw dealerships will replace clusters with new ones, but they must do the work and the coding. you can't just show up with a cluster and say "program this, please".

i don't think there is any law about modifying the odometer. though, it is illegal to pass off an inaccurate odometer reading as accurate (this is how you would get busted on a leased car).

Called www.autoinstruments.com, there receptionist was actually kinda rude, but they said that they do not work on anything this new.

Guess i check with the dealer next unless one of our sponsors can do it. I have not problem bringing the car in to show the current odometer.

you thought she was rude too huh?....hmmm...and I blew it off thinking it was just me, fortunately the guy I ended up talking to was quite respectful though very to the point. Kinda weird how people can be rude like that and still keep their job.

is it even possible to put the digital odometer in a non-digital car? I haven't heard of anyone doing it before in the v6 cars.

A few guys did a 94 analog to 97 digital here:

                            http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...log+97+digital

And the ebay auction says that it is compatible with the FIREBIRD 96 6-231 (3.8L) (cluster).

I guess if it doesn't work i could claim an incorrect description to ebay.

I just got the cluster and i put it in to try it out...

This thing works great and it is very stylish.

Old Cluster and it's 75,429 miles.

New Cluster and it's 108,008 miles.

Part numbers off the gauge cluster in case anyone is interested in updating there cluster.
