• Stalling Trouble and the Future...?

My '94 TA's RPMs dropped to 0 and came right back leaving the house the other day. Then, on the way back from downtown, I stalled doing 35 or 40. I pulled over, cranked, but she wouldn't fire-up. I waited a couple of minutes, and then she started right back up. I made the 30 minute drive after that just fine. I had electrical during and after the stall. No overheating. I need help diagnosing this, and I have a list of other maintenance/mod items to get done. No time, and not enough skill, honestly. I think bri2203 is busy. Who else can help? I hate breaking down in the hood (at least 75 isn't so bad if you can find a good spot on the shoulder).

I am just looking for someone to get me done right. Thanks, all.

That would be one of 2 things to check first, 1. Opti spark, then 2. fuel pump.

Thanks for your responses, guys. @DynoDave - No, this is an LT1 with a MSD Pro-Billet (vacuum assembly). @98blackbeauty - I just put the MSD (https://www.msdperformance.com/produ...let/parts/8381) on a few years ago and have very little mileage on it. At that time I put on a remanned water pump too. I don't think the fuel filter has been changed, so hopefully that's it. No time to check fuel pressure, and I haven't driven it enough again to have a repeat. @bri2203 - No worries. I know you're busy. Will you be around on Saturday during the late morning?

Left the car in Brian's hands at MasterWorks. We shall see what comes of this... I have a laundry list if he ever has the time!

Well, Brian seems like a stand-up guy. He did a good job of keeping me apprised on what was going on with the car. I have it back now and am monitoring it. I had my MAF sensor cleaned, throttle body cleaned, injectors cleaned, new air intake assembly installed, and plug wires checked. It seems to be running smoother now, and it's more responsive. My old air intake assembly was pretty beat up, which was letting in some unmonitored air. That would certainly explain the rougher than usual idle and potentially the stalling issue too. No stored codes to report. Imagine that...

Since my AC hasn't been working properly either, they partially charged it and added some dye. I am due to swing back by to have an UV inspection in another week or so. It looks like it may be just some leaking o-rings... So far, I have been happy with their service. It's never cheap, but if they do a good job, I'm happy to pay for it when I can.

Next fix is my headliner. The adhesive has let go near the windshield. I also have the typical headlight gear issues that plagues these cars. My window motors and door actuators need some help too, but one thing at a time... My wife will make my life hell if I continue spending time and/or money like this! At least I know that I have someone to help out should I need them.

Thanks, bri2203...

Derek, thanks for the kind words.
We will see you in the next week so we can determine your AC leak.

Reviving this old post as the issue has resurfaced. Now, it won't start back up timely sometimes. How's your schedule, Brian?!

Reviving this old post again. Stalling issue is STILL PRESENT and has actually gotten worse. MasterWorks diagnosed the car after it was starting again and found nothing wrong. Now it leaves me stranded. The car will crank but won't turnover for at least a few hours after it stalls now. Unfortunately, MasterWorks has been booked all summer, so I haven't been able to get it there in a failed state. I'd like to replicate the issue and have it towed in somewhere for immediate diagnosis. Does anyone have suggestions? I have a full tank of gas I'd like to actually RUN out this year. It's year 2 on the Stabil, and it's been sitting for 10 months now. Thanks, guys...

Can you give us a quick run down of things that have been tested already?

At one point I had gas at the Shrader valve. No spark check. MasterWorks checked air as evidence in my previous posts. Once they got time to diag last year, it had sat, so it started and ran fine. They also went through vacuum; said top-to-bottom. No stored codes. I can't say if it 100% a heat issue over the history of failures. I have replaced a few Optis on it and was hoping the MSD would buy me more time this time. It has. I have driven 35 miles and it has been fine. I have stalled pulling out of the garage in another instance though I can't say if it was warm or not (shame on me for not taking better notes). I expect Opti or ICM at first guess knowing the problem it is, and the resistance issues on the ICM over time. I get stranded, so it's been tough for me to [want to] diagnose. Time is something that existed in a previous life... I haven't driven it at all this year fearing the same, of course!

Do you have gas at the schrader valve after it stalls and won't re-fire?

I did when I checked last season at some point. So I'm back to the electrical... Man, it's getting cold...

Does anyone have a good shop/mechanic to recommend aside from MasterWorks?
