  • POR 15 VS Eastwood Products

I've been trying to find the article that compares the Eastwood Company's rust prevention sprays vs. POR 15.
When I look on Eastwood's website, I find the spray cans of the stuff, but not the gallon type liquid container that the article talked about.
The article made specific note to buy a cheap sprayer and line it with a plastic baggy so that you'd be able to separate the can from the sprayer head.

Has anyone had direct experience with Eastwood products? POR 15 seems to be the common one, but the Eastwood stuff was said to be much easier to apply, and last much longer.

This is for my 2005 Impala. Yea...I know. "Granny car daily driver why save it" But, It's a rust free southern car, and I freaking HATE the thought of destroying another one of my cars by death of salt.
It's comfy, 30+mpg, blends into traffic when in a full boogie, and most importantly....Its Freaking rust free!!

So, my plan is to pull all the bumper covers off, pull the rocker covers off and spray everything before salt hits the Tri-cities.

Any info on these products would be greatly appreciated. Need to get something ordered soon before the weather gets too cold.

    Thanks Guys
    Corey

I'm afraid my experiences aren't going to help much.

I've used a ton of POR15 on my Charger, but it has never hit the road.

I used a bunch of Bill Hirsch Miracle Paint on an old daily driver Omni...never even top coated it...and it held the rust at bay for 5 years, before I traded the car.

I have used some Eastwood, but not on my cars. I used it on a rusty lintel over my french door. It stopped the rust, but of course, my lintel doesn't see a lot of salt and road spray.

We spent a couple weeks in the winter a few years back and did the entire underside of Sam's '86 Monte with POR-15 - Floor pan and frame. Sam had also hit up the interior side of the floorpan as well (including the trunk). It never made it on the road, but it held up quite well to some serious beating and prying that we did trying to make the tubular control arms fit correctly...you do really have to follow the procedure quite closely, though - make sure it's degreased completely, and then do the Metal Ready spray.

Never used the Eastwood stuff, so I cannot comment on that - but due to my experience with the Monte (and ignoring my god-awful experience(s) with POR-20), I bought POR-15 to hit some spots (underbody and the bottom of the doors) on the Cav.

I've used the Eastwood stuff before. Frankly I'm not a fan. Never used anything else to compare it to though. It looks great but isn't durable at all in my experience, doesn't seem to like to adhere. I can scratch it off with my nail in some spots.
