  • Ls6 intake

I have a Ls6 intake that I want to install on my 1998 Trans am and I was wondering what else would need to be changed on the car maf sensor, map sensor, etc? Also would I need the Ls6 throttle body and fuel rail? And lastly would the car need a tune afterwards? Or would it be easier to just install it on my 2000 camaro because I know the 98 ls1 computers can be a little finicky.

ls6 and ls1 are the same tb and fuel rail, intake would bolt right on, a tune will be a good idea to get everything out of using an ls6 intake, you could also get a newer then 98 pcm and use it on your 98.

Are the 99-02 pcm's plug and play?

NOPE. your gonna have to get it tuned for your set-up but they are a better choice for tuning. It also wouldnt hurt to check on the pin outs as well, info can be found here.

you also must remove some of the checkerboard on the bottom of the manifold to clear the LS1 water crossovers. Or you can buy the LS6 crossover that blocks off the rear water crossover. You're better to use the LS1 crossovers.

So can the 1998 pcm's can can be programmed for upgrades such as heads, cam, and intake or should I upgrade the pcm as well? I'm mechanically inclined but wireing is just something I ever got into so I really didn't want to get into switching out pcm's and possibly getting into the wireing unless I had to.

sure, they are just a little more finicky and are not the tuners best friend

What's it usually cost for a tune? Is it something where I can just send out the pcm to be tuned? Or do I need to take the car to an actual tuning/dyno shop?shop? Also which one usually yields better results?

a full dyno tune is best, in real time, with your car the tuner can see everything working and make it work best together with the mods you done. however there are some places that do mail order tunes.

500 is about the going rate.
