So you're saying you don't wet sand the base coat? Isn't that why factory cars like the fbodies are know for orange peel? Or is that the clear coat?

Base doesn't get sanded unless it sits for a while. Never sand metallic or pearl.

Media blasting is a *****. I don't think I'll ever do any type of abrasive blasting again unless it's crushed dry ice. For now I'll stick with chemical dip of any removable panels

You can sand metallic and pearls. You just MUST put another coat on top or you'll see your scratches.

My understanding (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is that it's the clear coat. Joel and others have wet sanded their factory clearcoat to reduce orange peel.

Correct. The orange peal is in the clear not the base.

                ^ditto these two.

And TJ i say that because of the amount of equipment i had invested in the finishing process alone. You gotta really love body work to do it and do it well. Its hard on your body.
