10psi at hot idle is normal -- mine drops down to the 1/4th tick mark at hot idle and that's with a brand new oil pump, brand new oil distributor gear, and the white spring mod. As long as it's above that when you're driving around, I don't think that's your issue at all to be honest but if it's due for an oil change it wouldn't hurt to drain the oil and then hit the pan with a rubber mallet and see if you hear anything metallic rattling against the inside of the oil pan.

It has to come down to have a gasket put in anyhow, so can't hurt to give it a good once over while I'm there. But pressure falling off in the upper revs worries me, and I know the lifters are a bit noisy.sigpic

lifters are cheap insurance, and can be done in about 2 hours, but id suggest replacing valve springs as well, since they are probably pretty weak at this point, with that many miles. I put LS7 lifters in my '93, they were cheap, and easy to do, assuming you know how to set rocker preload and do the rocker adjustments.Originally posted by chrizar View PostIt has to come down to have a gasket put in anyhow, so can't hurt to give it a good once over while I'm there. Car idles hot at about 10 psi, comes right up with any rpm but never got over 40 psi no matter what rpm or throttle imput it was under. That seems low to me, as I thought sbc's rule of thumb was 10psi per 1k rpm give or take?sigpic

Are you trusting the gauge for this or reading with a scan tool?Originally posted by chrizar View PostCar idles hot at about 10 psi, comes right up with any rpm but never got over 40 psi no matter what rpm or throttle imput it was under. Oil pressure isn't monitored by the PCM, runs directly to the cluster via pin B in the C220 connectorOriginally posted by chrizar View Postas soon as I get my hands on a ALDL cable I will be verifying oil pressure. Or even just buying a mechanical gauge and be done with it.

93 and early 94 had the sender down by the filter (like the 3rd gens) but were later moved up top. Not sure of exhaust clearances on LT1's down there.

Even with longtubes I don't think I'd have a problem mounting a sensor there for a gauge. I've been looking at the Prosport gauges, and read a lot of mixed things about em... 105 bucks for the peak/warning one and it has the white dial which I prefer.sigpic

Swapped PCM's out and the car is running better, sounds healthier, just still shaking at a light when you let off the brakes. A mail order tune and Cable will be ordered next week once I know my block is sold.sigpic

Misfire FIXED! Found a burnt plug wire, never saw it arch cause of the header boots. Plus the MAF was plugged up pretty bad. Still gets poor MPG, but runs and pull WAAAAAYYYY better now. Tune from Solomon this week, along with a new ALDL cable.sigpic

My son had low oil pressure, now we have a new motor.Originally posted by hoogiesngrinderz View PostThat low of pressure would have me very worried. Oil pump pickup knocked off?
Drain the oil and see what it looks like. My gut says 'not good' but I've been wrong before...hoping that's the case!
