  • Anyone near the Eastpointe area able to give me a hand?

I've been tracking issues down with my car for over a week now after the wall bounce in the rain. Fixed the battery cable, no more hard starts, but still shitty throttle response and the exhaust note is different. Now I can hear what sounds like a ticking in the upper half of the motor but I'm not sure. Other notable thing is I don't see over 40 psi of oil pressure EVER running mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30 and sitting in gear at idle the car shakes pretty bad and it just started that.

Anyhow was hoping someone that knows more about this could come and listen to it/check it out, don't want to drive it 90 miles home and risk something else happening.

What is the oil PSI at idle right now? The ticking might be from weak oil pressure. Did your whole car nail the wall pretty hard that it could have dislodged something?

I don't think it hit hard enough to break anything, it only really started after the electrical issue popped up. At cruising speeds it sits around 20 psi or so and idle i would say 15 psi give or take and it will slowly drop down after it's warmed up to about 10 psi at idle. I swapped the PCM over to the other one I had and no real difference. It still has a pretty bad shake just after you let off the brakes in gear and now i noticed a stumble at low rpm/speeds. I could hear it breaking up through the exhaust. Plus it just sounds way more raspy...

I'm uploading a youtube video of the car from a cold start and taking a short 5 min drive or so. Then y'all can tell me what you think.

Sorry for the shit audio quality... Jump to about 3:50 for the 2 pops in the exhaust. I checked all my wires on the drivers side and plugs were fine, next is pulling the alternator and bracket to get to my wires on the pass side..

Sounds like the raspy noise could be a exhaust leak

everywhere i look i can't track the leak down if there is one, nothing at the header gaskets, and the collectors/Ypipe are all Band clamps, only place i could think of would be where the I pipe meets the over the axle pipe.

That low of pressure would have me very worried. Oil pump pickup knocked off?

Drain the oil and see what it looks like. My gut says 'not good' but I've been wrong before...hoping that's the case!

I'll drain it next week after i get pain and can go grab some oil for it, i know it's due and a bit dirty but it's the first fresh oil the motor has had in probably 2 years since it sat.

The only time I've ever had pressure drop below 20 in any SBC was when the crank bearings went. Last one was a popped head gasket that filled the pan full of coolant. Chocolate milk coming from the drain plug makes the gut hurt

well the LT1 only calls for 6 psi at idle...

That's a minimum at 1,000 RPM. At idle in my car (750-800 RPM), I'm sitting on around 20psi of oil pressure. I'd say something is wrong if you are making less than that. Could be a number of things though. When's the last time you changed the oil? Any metal shavings/flakes in the old oil when you drained it?

Just because it says that is the minimum it doesn't make it right. The only engine I've seen run reliably at that pressure was a hot SBF. That was only for one season though (mud truck) and has been since rebuilt

On a cold start today it was near 35 psi and held above 20 the whole time, but after driving it around for a while I've seen it drop to about 10 at idle. I've not seen it that low for over 2 weeks now though to be fair. Oil has not been changed since I fired this motor up after sitting for 2 years or more, that will be this coming week and it has a bit over 2k miles on it.

We did have the pan off it before it was ever started, maybe we knocked the pickup tube loose? Pan was down was the motor was in the car, and I won't explain what I did to cause that....

The pan has to come off again though, as I have a small leak on the front at the timing cover, which also will get taken care of next week.
