  • Does anyone know a Machine shop that could help me out for being stupid?

    Hey,

ok.. now don't judge me for being stupid here haha.. this is not Camaro related.. but it IS car related.. I have a 2008 Cobalt SS.. and it comes with Brembo 4 piston front calipers.. which is awesome.. as long as you know that you are supposed to remove the pins that hold the brake pads in place ever once and awhile and lube them up.. which I didn't know

so I did some reading online and said that I should just be able to tap them out with a punch and a hammer.. well.. that did not work for me..so I soaked them in PB blaster.. then heated them.. and clamped onto them with a pair of vice grips to see if I could get them to twist at all.. bad move.. broke the pins in half.. they came out the front side.. but the back side were siezed.. so I kept working at them.. more PB and heat.. and I now snap the head off too... .. at this point I get the bright idea to drill them out.. and see if they are hallow if it will make them easier to punch out.. again.. didn't work.. at this point.. I am pretty pissed off..

so instead of ruining a $300+ brembo caliper.. does anyone here know of a place or person who could professionally drill these out for me so that I can drive my car again?

I would suggest having them EDM removed but I don't know any one in your area who does that.

I too have heard of this issue, I hope I get lucky as I still have the original pads on the front of the tuner.

I'm thinking on what it will cost to get it done, you're almost better to buy that new caliper. It will be difficult to set this job up to be able to keep the hole perfectly round and in the proper place. I'd be checking on where you could buy one the cheapest.
When in doubt, Whip it out !

Edm will not touch the caliper and its less than $50.

usally the pair of calipers sell for 400 with low miles

I don't see how it could possibly cost more than $350 for this to be done.. I feel like an experienced machine shop should be able to do something as simple as this? seems silly to buy a whole new caliper for something as stupid as this.

again.. seems silly to buy new calipers when everything with mine work fine besides 2 little holes..

it's not a huge deal if it can't be done right away.. I just want to get it done at some point haha.. currently I cant even move my car unless its being pushed since my caliper is off.. I'll get some pics later.. and it's greatly appreciated that you are willing to help me out.. thanks!
