dex cool will be fine its basically a weak acid based coolant from all ive learned and thats why some cars have gasket issues. Its suppose to be better for water pumps , as the green stuff doesnt offer as good of protection, if i remember correctly its been quite awhile since ive read about coolant.sigpic

All I know is when I see these 100K+ mile cars come into the shop and NEVER had any cooling system work done to them ..... it's a mess. The radiator caps are completely plugged, the radiators are plugged, the hoses are destroyed, the overflow bottles are fogged up. Green stuff usually doesn't make such a mess from what I've seen.
They're basically equals in my mind. Because as long as you change your fluid once in a while you'll be fine. Personally, I run green stuff in my '91 bird with a cast iron boat anchor in it.

The original DexCool had an over-aggressive additive package in it that ate through many seals in certain engines (mainly the 3X00 series V6s). They revised the coolant additive package, and have put it in every GM vehicle since then. I rarely, if ever, hear of a coolant problem caused by the newer DexCool.
I have it in my Cobalt, and I've put it back in (as I said above) twice, as well as in the heat-exchanger loop.
Megan's Cavalier will get fresh DexCool as soon as I drain the old shit out...I'm pretty sure it's never been changed.

If you'd like to join the hundreds of Class action lawsuits for people with destroyed motors due to DexCool, use it.
If you want to save your engine, new or old - drain that garbage out the day you get it home, and refill with Prestone All Make All Model.
Not only do you save your motor, you'll drop it 5 degrees.
Never Mix Green glycol with Dexcool. It can form a Gel inside the radiator and plug the cooling system.
I've done many intake jobs for co-workers and friends. I have had 1 engine destroyed, and 1 damaged due to Dexcool in my personal fleet.
Further, in any vehicle with dexcool I can pretty much put down a $100 bet that the gaskets are malformed and require replacement - leaking or not.
My 3800 Intake repair guide on my forum had over 1200 hits in a few weeks before I locked it down. The 3.1L and 3.4L guides were quickly trailing in hits.
