  • trashed or salvageable heads

Ok two questions here. My father has a gen 1 350 we rebuilt the motor, (long story shorter) we made a huge mistake and accidentally swapped 2 pistons and installed them in the wrong cylinders. These are high compression pistons and we had a high lift cam so we had to make sure the valve reliefs were in the right location(which they were not). We trashed lifters, cam completely toast, one intake valve completely sheared, and one piston unsalvageable along with cylinder wall gauge, one cylinder head is all beat up(pic).

So first question can this head be saved? ( hoping welded and then re-machine the combustion chamber and valve seat)

second if it can does anybody know who could do it?

these are dart heads we bought would like to salvage but were expecting there not worth doing.

    WHAT A EXPENSIVE MISTAKE!!!!!!!

luckily the lifter broke off the other cylinder and only put a little gouge in the piston( valve seems to look ok)

Any good head guy should be able get those working well again.

New valve guides, valve seats, valves, and a little smoothing

hes a mopar guy. but also works on other stuff. he's good at what he dose. sometimes slow but due to cancer. if anyone will do a bang up job he will. he has a 5 axsis cnc along with alot of other stuff. If he says not to fix them i would trust his judgment i do, cast isnt as easy to fix as aluminum but can be done.

Sounds like you'll need to get block bored and all new piston if cylinder was is gauged. I would imagine some one could check crank and rebalance that aswell.

I was going to say - I wouldn't do anything until you check the block, rods, and crank for damage.
              I'd replace the pushrods too.
That valve seat looks pretty busted up - but take it to a competent machinist and they'll tell you right away.

Tally the cost - it may be cheaper to buy a Crate motor ready to go, plus you get a warranty.

SBC heads - trash them and get another pair.

Unless there is some major port work done or if they are aftermarket castings - move on.

Find some vortec heads and do a valve job
