  • smoke coming out of my valve cover???

put about 600 miles on my car this weekend. it started smoking out of the breather on my valve cover. i took the breather off, and with the engine running, its a steady stream of smoke coming out of it. when i rev the car up, more comes out. it doesnt really smell like gas fumes. what could it be? my car runs and drives perfect. no issues besides the smoke?

pull the plugs, start with #7. Does the exhaust smoke at all? any signs of coolant?

the smoke is coming out of the passenger side valve cover too, not sure about the drivers, as its under the cowl... i'll pull the plugs and see that they say.

typically this is not a very good sign but I will wait until you check a few things and report back. take off the coil packs and 7 should be pretty easy to get on the driver side. Hopefully they don't show signs of damage.

after i replace a wheel cylinder on a different car i'll pull the plugs. they are easy to get to. the exhaust always smokes in these temps.. my coolant is full. so is my oil.

Does this happen after you have been driving the car for a while or will it do it on a cold start also?

It's normal for them to smoke a little when you remove the PCV system. If it's excessive you might have another problem

are you running a catch can set up in it? it oculd just be b/c of the coolness of the air outside compared to when u just drove it last time when it was warmer..

it does it on cold start up too. i ran it two weekends ago and it didnt smoke. ran it all this weekend and it didnt smoke, til about 4pm sunday (after about 400 miles on it on saturday). drove it another 2 hundred miles and didnt notice it, till today again. i dont have a catch can setup yet, i just picked up some hose to do it. just need to buy or make a can. i'm going to go out and check the plugs now. but its coming out in a good stream. i put my finger over it and feel it coming out too.

that is a sighn of having windage if the crank case. alot of people get this type of problem when they remove there pcv system. most car that are build beyond a certain point develope windage. it has to go somewhere. i recomend a vacume setup. iv seen alot of people used the vacume pump off old lt-1 cars to eliminate it. it will aslo provide better ring seal it the vacume can reach 5 psi. small example below.

                          hope this helps
