  • motor mount help?

i bought a poly trans mount for my car, since my rubber mount was ripped. i took the trans brace off, took off the old mount. i bolted in the new mount and screwed in the stud in the center hole. when i went to install the trans mount, the stud wouldnt line up to go thru the hole on the trans brace. i struggled with it quite a bit. took the stud out of the mount, moved it over to the drivers side hole and i was able to get the stud thru the mount and the nut on it. is this ok? or does it NEED to be the center hole? below is the link to the mount i bought, so you can see what i mean with the stud and the holes in it. thanks!

The holes to the trans side are slotted aren't they?

ya, but it wouldnt move over enough. i tried raising the trans all the way up, and lowering it down etc.

Maybe the engine mounts are shot and the engine has shifted
When in doubt, Whip it out !

Is your trans centered? You might have to loosen your motor mounts and twist her a bit... I think I remember having that problem.

how can i tell if its perfectly centered? i had that issue when i put motor/trans back in. thought i had it fixed. this mount came out and the trans didnt seem to move, but when i put new mount in, it didnt line up.

Im not sure if the trans tunnel is concentric with the tailshaft, but that would be easy to measure...

but definitely you want the driveshaft perfectly inline with the car, and Im sure you can find refrence points to measure to.

I would go ahead and loosen the motor mount bolts and assume they are what is wrong, but that is a pain in the ass, especially if you're running loctite like you should. Goodluck.

That is your problem. I have done solid mounts in 2 cars (both T56 cars) and not one time did the poly trans mount line up right.

Means your solid mounts are not lined up correctly.

it was a ***** to get motor on the k member with these mounts in the first place, then it was a pain to get the trans to line up. finally got it, but the trans mount was shot.. the mounts dont move AT ALL. if the driveshaft is straight am i ok?

I also have solid motor mounts, and it is ALWAYS a PITA to get my poly mount (same as yours) to line up with my umi crossmember.
I would agree its the solid mounts, and you should be fine with it like that. A very little angle like that wont hurt you.

is yours on the center hole or over one?

I had to play to adjust mine a little, but it wasn't a PITA by any means...
