  • West Side Tuner

Looking for someone who knows how to tune LTs well on the West side of Michigan. I'm now currently living in Holland. Anyone have any recommendations?

That place looks amazing. Do you know what tuning program they use for the LT1s or no?

If I ever get a dyno tune it would be by TJ as well.

There are programs that work best for LT1 engines... HP Tuners I believe isn't one. However, I am not satisfied with my current tune or customer service of my current tuner. I know my tune was done on LT1Edit.

I left a message on TJs voice mail, hopefully he has time to respond today.

On an LTx based motor with the stock PCM your best bet for tuning is to use LT1Edit, and then clean up codes and other things with TunerCats

I guess right now I'm looking for a second opinion by another professional tuner. If this TJ guy is willing to do just that and give his professional opinion on things that would be the satisfaction I need. Sadly, I just don't hold enough confidence with the previous tuner. It's not that the car doesn't run smooth or doesn't have power, it's the fact that when I ask him technical questions like, What was the knock count? Where was the timing? What was my injector duty? or can your print a data sheet? I just get vague answers like, "It was fine." Maybe I'm asking too much? I don't know.

Knock count isn't really going to be a good question. Your PCM doesn't register TRUE knocks, it just registers what it THINKS is detonation. So you can have like 3000 "knocks" but it's perfectly fine. He definitely should be able to give you injector duty and what not though.

I think I asked him, "How were the knock counts? Did you get the timing you wanted?" His answer was, "Yea..." In return I asked, "What was the timing?" and his answer was, "I don't remember." I asked him, "What was the injector duty?" His reply was, "Really low." Then I asked if he can print a more detailed sheet with detailed information like that and he said, "No, I don't think it does that." This is a well known shop in Detroit that has produced some reputable work, so I don't get it.

I know they tuned the car with a wideband because one of my Y-Pipes has a bung now. I have just recently found out that my car runs on open loop all the time now. I recently called and asked him if he tuned the car for open loop and his response was, "If it's always in open loop than I must have tuned it for that." Uhhh... Kay.... These are one of the things I would have liked to have known when I got the car back.

This seems to be my experience with every tuner I have used (i.e. lack of info when asked)...I finally gave up and started tuning myself

Hah, I was gonna refrain from saying cause I know they surf local sites and I don't feel like getting bashed. But after the conversation with the tuner yesterday and the feeling that he could give a shit less I feel I will not be using their services ever again. Vector Motorsports.
