I learn something new everyday, Im gonna try the trans in my oil, since I have to change it this weekend anyway also try the oil in the fuel too cause Im sure at 180k original injectors are a lil bit dirty and need some lube. I change my oil about every 8-10k

well you gotta figure I have an inline 6 4.2L which I do 8 full quarts of oil per change, 7.5 quarts in the pan and .5 in the filter. Will more oil running through the system, it evens out as the same for the 5 quart cars being changed at 3 to 5k miles. I bought this truck new with less then .3 miles and it still runs strong with no leaks or burning of oil specially at more then 180k miles and still going. if it works leave it I say.

Oil usually far outlasts the 3k change period, the filter however does not. We ran AMSOIL in a dodge diesel pickup at school for 25k and it STILL passed a UOA, filter was changed every 3k. Its all about keeping the oil clean, and when they clog up, oil bypasses it entirely.

True true, I agree with you, people that change the oil in DD's at 3k are just throwing money out the door, I also run a bigger filter, always have. I never liked the small short filters that came on any of my trucks

on the engine oil life topic spencer and greg are very right. oils will far exceed the life of a filter. here at delphi in the dyno lab we have found oils to exceed 15,000 miles. witch is about 1000 hours run time on a dyno. and they still UOA specifications. Now in day its not oil viscosity that your fighting its carbon deposits left in you oil. i use either mobile 1 synth. with a good and large filter. and have never had a problem changing my oil every 10,000 and my filter every 3,000. in race motors you better off changing oil more often due to heat cycles.
