  • LS1 Belt tensioner bad???

Anyone know how to check it? It appears I got lucky, couple friends stopped by tonight to see how I was doing the battery relocation and noticed the belt.. Parked it just in time!! Don't mind the filth, it's on the list.....

Oh don't remind me lol. David (lsxdreamer) and I spent about 2 hours looking for his belt on 131 at 1AM after racing a termi.

Lost mine last year, turned out my crank dampener had broke causing the belt to constantly come off... Luckily it happened in my garage!

Guy who sold my dad his new Z28 said the tensioner had broken, belt flew off and screwed up the steering rack. I'm calling BS but I'm not entirely sure.

never had an issue with stock stuff shifting at 6800rpm
most people dont bother to check the dampner installed distance though

Weird, is the belt that loose that it sits over one groove? To me it just looks like the belt was not put in the right grooves! I had to replace my accessory tensioner a year ago or so, it was making a little noise, so i figured better safe than sorry and I replaced it.

not sure if he is still selling/making them or not but its worth sending an e-mail and finding out. Its a very nice piece.

I only messed with it for a second, but it seemed loose enough that I could of moved it back by hand without moving the tensioner.. Last time this happened it was my crank dampener had broken.. Checked that, it's fine..

Wonder why he was banned? Selling stuff without sponsoring maybe? Will shoot him an email and see if it bounces back or not..

I have no idea, I'm willing to bet he was because he was selling without being a sponsor. He might sell them on ebay still.

I think Derek hit the nail on the head. Improper installation would be my guess. Tensioners should last forever. Check the guage on the tensioner to see if the belt has streched.

tensionser on these cars don't last forever hence why there is an aftermarket for them, they can wear over time and the pulleys can even go bad. Its not a common issue by any means but I have heard of a few guys on tech having issues at high hp levels.
