  • Help with a 2002 Z28 Camaro

    2002 Z28 Camaro. I just found out a weeks ago that it has the Ls6 block. Im trying to get more out of the motor. I call'd the performance shop all the work was done at in illinois and Speed INC. I really couldnt get any answers out of them. A few shops here in Canton dont really want to mess with it, due to them thinking Speed INC had a package they put together and dont want to make the car slower, or run differant. It was dyno'd a while ago(previous owner) but i never got the paper work for it, im thinking it has atleast over 420 horse. here's whats done.

    12 bolt Moser rear-end (3.73 gears, and 3-channel ABS)
    *SLP ls1 high flow elbows
    * K &N air filter
    *Ported throttle body (80mm)
    *Pro 5.0 powertower shifter/quick shift
    *Re-built t-56 transmission with aluminum flywheel, with stage 3 clutch
    *Adjustable torque arm,
    Tubular lower control arm (poly),
    Panhard ros relocation kit
    *Speed inc- Comp Ls1 custom camshaft 224/224 .581/581,
    Comp chrome poly pushrod,
    Comp wire springs,
    Hookers headers,
    MSD superconductor 8.5mm wires,
    NGK copper spark plugs,
    Hooker Ls1 Y-pipe,
    *Custom racingpack mufflers
    * SLP skip shift eliminator chip
    * SLP front and rear sway bar
    * SLP front and rear suspension
    * Ported Ls1 heads
    * Ls6 intake
    * 4point sub-frame connecter
    *Ls6 Block

    ..Im wanting more out of it, but dont know where to go from here. i dont want Turbo,Nos,supercharger i want is N/A. Any idea's would help (sorry if this is confusing) Also can i change the heads w/o having to change the cam? a performance shop said that ls1 ported heads will prolly work better for the car than ls6, or that the cam wont fit with? idk so figured id post here and see what y'all think. Thanks.

    ported 243 and bigger cam
    tfs heads and a better cam also
    the heads, as long as you dont get something dumb(225,235, 245) with huge runner will work with the cam

          fast intake won't really make much of a difference unless you've got it built. But honestly, comparing the runners in the fast intakes and the runners in the stock intakes the oem design looks like

            i would rather not spend 1000 for a leaky intake

              First thing I would do is get it dynoed, then you know where you are at. then talk to sb tuning or dr phil and have it tuned. you might be suprised what can be gotten out of your existing setup.

                Sounds like hes going to be building it up more so a FAST would be suitable

                  I don't know about the newer ones but all the old 90mm ones I've seen leaked. Not something I'd wanna pay that kind of $ for. I used to have one and now I went back to a stock LS6 intake and I'm very happy. Heads are what would help that motor out, either that alone or heads and a bigger cam might squeak more power out of it. I doubt it makes 420 to the tire now.

                    Looking at the new ones, they will not leak. Instead of the seal rope being all around the perimeter and between the runners now it is only around the perimeter. I rebuilt the 92 that I have with a new seal rope so hopefully it won't leak. I do think that it was a bad design having seal rope being run all around and between the runners though, especially with the bolts in the center of the manifold that secure it to the engine holding the upper shell to the lower to compress the rope. Besides that, the money for a fast intake/tb is MUCH MUCH MUCH better spent on new heads/cam especially since you could port your LS6 heads and get a new cam for less money. Heck, if you even got a tune after that it would probably cost the same.

                          500 at the wheels has been done with stock cubes but its very hard to attain. Your best bet for that type of power is a stroker motor and 383s always seem like a waste IMO I'd go 402 or bigger.
