  • Sooo Screwed.

How the eff do I get this out? Dont ask how it got there, just need it out. Its a tap in a intake bolt hole (in the head) with a 3/8"-16 helicoil already in it.

I have no idea, but when you figure it out let us all know! You never know when shit like this is gonna happen...and we could all use a solution.

Maybe weld a bolt head on the end of it and back it out?

you dont think I can use a reverse drill bit or easy out? It is in the head so I want to keep heat down as much as possible

That tap is hardened so drilling that is going to be one HUGE pain in the a. I would try what they said above. You can always soak a rag and put it around the area that you are welding on. Used it in HVAC when soldering a/c units and such.

And another thing.....when I gun the motor, I want the whole world to think it's coming to an end.

im going to try a tap extractor tomorrow. but if that doesnt work i guess I'll be welding a bolt to it. MIG will work right?

I would try welding a bolt to it before extracting, maybe check with the company who made the tap and maybe they have a warranty or will fix property damage since it just snapped off like that

Wow, that really sucks. I'm going with welding being the best bet. Why on earth was a tap put down a hole with a helicoil in it????

Good luck if you drill, i broke an easy out in a kmember bolt that got stuck, had to use the torches and burn a hole down the middle and went with a bigger easy out, drill bits will do nothing to that hardend metal.

You might get lucky with a tap extractor..they can be finiky to use. Use lots of oil and compressed air to try and keep it free of debris. Your only other option is to weld a bolt on it like they other guys said. I have extracted many broken taps in my machine building days...theres always a way!lol If neither of those methods work for you, you can always take it to a machine shop and they can "burn" it out with a solid carbide high speed end mill.

machine shop was gonna be my answer but if you can weld then get it done. Your gonna have to text me why you were running a tap down a helicoil.

My dad did the same thing - broke an easy-out in a regular threaded hole on my head... we took the head to Steve and he had someone drill it out and helicoil it for us for a good price.
